About this listen

A 2015 Virginia Romance Writers HOLT Award of Merit recipient for outstanding literary fiction in the Romance Novella category.

Victorian Era England...

As far as rash decisions go, it was formidable. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne's will remains strong. If the only way to save her family's estate and reputation is by aiming a small pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction - and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the intense and foreboding Duke himself....

But she's made the first move against a very dangerous opponent....

For Sebastian Thornton is no stripling to be trifled with. The lady has played her hand. Now it's his turn. For Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with spirit and fire - even if she means to only marry for his money - would be a great prize indeed. And he intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her... and demands his own satisfaction in return.

Good.

This was pretty good for a short read. Stacy Reid has fast become one of my favorite authors in this genre. I am working my way through her catalog and so far they are all good reads!

Short story with full body

This is a quick listen that gives a full story and with wonderful characters. I enjoyed the story and thought the narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life. I will say that the book had me wanting more, not necessarily from these characters but from those around them and including them.

Okay novella and narration..

This is my first novella by Stacy Reid and I can’t see me reading anything else by her. IMO she’s another author who fills her books with nothing but sex and there has to be more than that for me. I can’t see putting sex, much less twice in 112 pages, in a novella. It takes up room and takes away from any kind of story.

This was an okay story. It’s started off well, with Jocelyn holding Sebastian at gunpoint, but too soon it became all about sex, so it didn’t take me long you lose interest.

So, two sex scenes and no swearing.

As to the narration: Anna Parker-Naples did a good job. Not much in the emotion area but the voices were okay.

Short in length, huge in entertainment!

What a lot of book in such a short tale. I wanted MORE! Set near the end of the 19th century and full of all the things we love about romance in that time.

Excellent performance, very hot, and worth the money. But it costs less than a credit!!!!

Romance and drama abound with a grumpy duke and his sassy new duchess. Fast paced with interesting characters.

NAUGHTY FLAME RESISTANT UNDIES SCROCHING eBOOK

**Updated review 3/28/2020**

This romance read started with a feisty Jocelyn pointing a derringer on the cold & unfeeling Duke of Calydon, Sebastian. All Sebastian sees is a hellion with an inner fire that gets him hard! She is pissed off because his brother (book #2 in the series), Anthony, teased her with anothet marriage & her dad's estate is falling around her young siblings' ears. What must she do?

Sebastian sees what he wants & totally agrees to marry her. Sebastian believes all females are lairs & unfaithful, courtesy of his mom & her lover, that his mom marries after only 3 months after his Father's death, & then discovery of his brother & sister's true father. These 2 have absolutely no problems in the bedroom, desk or even a couch, as Jocelyn inner HOE is unlocked by Sebastian's lips, tongue & glorious hands. When they are out of the bedroom, it sucks royally!!

I read this book after The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell, which is book #2 in this scandalous series, but I think I enjoyed it that way. Either book stands alone, but Mizz Reid teases you with her writing style & she make you CRAVE the next book. I think Mizz Reid could write cliffhangers for TV shows, like Sleepy Hollow or the provocative Scandal! Mizz Reid gifted me with so many "PULL THE FIRE ALARM" & pantie melting scenes that I needed a chocolate fix ASAP! I loved both of her books in her Scandalous House of Calydon series & I am waiting, NOT SO PATIENTLY, for Connie's story. I must give my top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes & I am even adding my furry reading buddy's 4 paws up into my score because she had a derringer & snotty butlers a Fairy Godmother plus unknowing Fairy Godfather & that my peeps that totally takes writing talent that Mizz Stacy gifts us with!!

Too Short

The story line is promising. But it is not worth spending a credit. Also, while the narrator voices the female characters adequately, the male voices are awful, especially the heroine’s father.

Good short story

I generally always like Stacy Reid's lounger stories and thought I would give this short one a try.

It was overall good, but with shorter stories, it was rushed. While I like my books to be over 200 pages, this one, even though it was under the 200 page mark was actually pretty good. While I do believe it would have been better if it were longer, the story flowed and the rushed feeling I receive when reading short stories wasn't as much as it had been with other shorter books.

I would recommend this book for a quick read that introduces you to the Duke's family. The other stories are longer, more evenly paced, and are a solid 5🌟. Since I felt this was a little rushed, it earned 4🌟.
