Publisher's summary

The rich farmlands of the Dakota Territory in 1887 are finally beginning to yield the abundant harvest the pioneers had dreamed about so long. The establishment of the railroad has brought significant changes to the small town of Blessing as well as prosperity to the Bjorklund family and their neighbors.

Among the townsfolk is reverend John Solberg. The reverend, rejecting the persistent efforts of matchmaking mothers, develops a friendship with Mary Martha through their common love of books. But then the message arrives that she must return home to care for her ailing mother. When she leaves, she says that she'll write. Reverend John and the other townsfolk are left to wonder, is this good-bye forever?

Love this series

Sometimes I’m confused about who’s speaking when there’s not much narrative speech difference between characters.

So Inspiring!

I love this series! I just wish there was voice distinction from the narrator. At times I was confused who was speaking since they all, men and women, sound the same,

Engaging, beautiful, and instructive.

I am of Norwegian descent. My grandparents immigrated to South Dakota from Norway before my mother was born. I've loved hearing about what life must have been like for then. And I've profited spiritually from the book as well. The faith of the characters wasn't perfect, but their faith was in a perfect God. very worthwhile reading. Highly recommended.

Not my favorite in this series, but still good.

This was Callie's worst narration. Callie's southern accent is not good. While compared to Stina's Norwegian accent in other of Snelling's books, Callie is lacking there also, but her narration has still been easy to listen to. This one is hit and miss with the Missouri characters. It makes the story less believable....IMO.

Frontier love

A wonderful story of frontier life and true love. The continuing story of those on the Red River keeps me wanting more. Such good storytelling!

Wow!

This author is so amazing the way she weaves God into every moment of these characters lives! By this time in the series, I feel like I'm part of the family, grieving when they grieve, and rejoicing when they rejoice! Beautifully done!

Rich characters with real faith

All the books by Lauraine Spelling are such a joy to read! She paints such a vivid picture of life on the Prairie in the late 1800s. Her characters are multifaceted with real challenges and a living faith in Christ, which is often tested. She interjects humor in the best way: real life situations. I could read everyone of her books and then start again! Thank you Audible, for having so many available.
