About this listen

The 10 Habits of Highly Successful Women is a collection of essays revealing the secret career habits and hard-won wisdom of a diverse group of accomplished women, selected by Rachel Sklar and Glynnis MacNicol, co-founders of TheLi.st, the well-known network dedicated to elevating professional women.

Perhaps no group has experienced more upheaval in the last few decades than working women. In this series, each woman explores the one key habit or lesson that has made the difference in forging her career and attaining professional success.

Whether it’s CNN personality Sally Kohn’s exploration of emotional correctness or What Not To Wear's Stacy London on the wear and tear of our aspirational “Culture of Extraordinary;” why millennial Nisha Chittal won't tell you her age and what Cindy Gallop learned about sex while dating men half hers; how lessons from waitressing led Jenna Wortham to the New York Times or how Paula Froelich perfected the art of the “controlled burn” to start over after the end of a dream career—these essays uncover the challenges and delights of chasing, and finding, success in work and life as a professional woman.

The book was thought provoking. I could have enjoyed it without the Chapter 10 advertorial.

I can't speak for any other women or their journeys through their careers, but this is the least applicable book to any women in STEM. This should be titled, "10 habits of highly successful women in female dominated industries".

Should Have Read the Reviews First

The last essay wasn't that on point... It was more an advertisment for a website... a good website, but it got boring after a while... The lesson of that story: be creative and be bold.

Would you try another book from Glynnis MacNicol and Rachel Sklar and/or Laural Merlington?

Maybe on a different subject...

Would you ever listen to anything by Glynnis MacNicol and Rachel Sklar again?

I don't know, Maybe but I would have to have some clear indication that it was better than this...

Would you be willing to try another one of Laural Merlington’s performances?

Yes she was fine, it's just what she was reading was very not for me...

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I honestly only made it in a few chapters before the endless chatter over matter style of writing got to me. this can sometimes work for self-improvement books, for many even, but it must be done right, and this book just doesn't deliver.

Any additional comments?

I'm not a basher or a hater, and I'm a writer myself so I know how hard it is to put your work out there for others to pick apart, and for my blunt honesty I am sorry but this is just not a book for me. However it may well work for many women, and tick all the points they are interested in but for "me" it's just not what I was looking for...

Just not a fan.

I can't explain exactly why I didn't like it. but I found myself very irritated while listening to the book and some parts even seem to contradict themselves.

Just blah

I wish I had this book back when I was just starting out in my career. I can relate to many of these stories and obtained a lot of great advice.

Did not enjoy this book. It was slow getting started. It was now consistent. I struggled reading this book.

Not Good. Struggled to Finish.

The reader should be aware that this woman is a lesbian and a far left liberal who is talking about how we must be more inclusive of gender identity, and promoting political correctness. This is a guys for the far left agenda and hardly worth reading unless you feel the same way.
