About this listen

The best-selling motivational guide that TheAtlantic.com calls "a rallying cry for women to get the money they deserve."

Why are women so often overlooked and underpaid? What are the real reasons men get raises more often than women? How can women ask for - and actually get - the money, the job, the recognition they deserve?

Prompted by her own experience as cohost of Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski asked a wide range of successful women to share the critical lessons they learned while moving up in their fields. Power players such as Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Harvard's Victoria Budson, comedian Susie Essman, and many more shared their surprising personal stories. They spoke candidly about why women are paid less and the pitfalls women face - and play into.

Now expanded to address gender dynamics in the #MeToo era, Know Your Value blends compelling personal stories with the latest research on why many women don't negotiate their compensation, why negotiating aggressively usually backfires, and what can be done about it.

For any woman who has ever wondered if her desire to be liked can be a liability (yes), if there is a way to reclaim her contribution after it's been co-opted in a meeting (yes), and if there are strategies men use to get ahead that women should too (yes!), Know Your Value provides vital advice to help women be their own best advocates.

I wish Mika was the reader. I recognize the Voice Actor that did the reading and she was good, but Mika has a great voice and it would make more sense for it to be her voice.

Research salaries, go ask people what they make. Approach requesting a raise without reservation and without emotion.

This theme of value is emphasized over and over with many wonderful examples. I "read" the book as an audible and found myself being so inspired and appreciative to be a woman in this time as there is so much we can do in recognizing and showing our value to the world in spite of the behavior of the leader of our country!

Tremendous Value for Everyone In This Book!!

This was an excellent book. Those who were upset about her comments on the former administration clearly do not have the right intentions at heart. I enjoyed the fact that she gives actionable items and resources and mentions the fact that these issues aren't exclusive to women.

My mom bought me this book and it changed my perspective completely. Literally after finishing it, I used to approach suggested and asked my bosses for a meeting to discuss my compensation. I was confident, short, and non-emotional. They told me that it’s been in the works, guaranteed an 8% raise, and told me they plan on putting me in a lead role and training others. If you have been working your butt off and feel underpaid and constantly question your value, get this book!!

I found the book encouraging. I was concerned about Mika speaking to such a diverse group of women. But I think she did a good job acknowledging our differences and providing meaningful career insights.

Encouraging

I’ll just echo what has been said many, many times, the courage it took for Mika Brzezinski to realize and fight for her value, share her story with the world and then start a movement is amazing. Truthful, authentic, powerful…

Inspirational and reassuring

Much of this book highlights just how hard women have had to work to be taken seriously and to have a seat at the table. it has encouraged me tremendously. I would never had thought at 57 I would be gaining momentum in my career, but I am and this book is cheering me on!

Hardworking women, prepare to be inspired!
