Publisher's summary
In The 15-Minute City: A Solution to Saving Our Time and Our Planet, Carlos Moreno delivers an exciting and insightful discussion of the deceptively simple and revolutionary idea that everyday destinations like schools, stores, and offices should only be a short walk or bike ride away from home.
This book tells the story of an idea that spread from city to city, describing a new way of looking at living that addresses many of the most intractable challenges of our time. Hundreds of mayors worldwide have already embraced the concept as a way to help recover from the pandemic, and the idea continues to gain speed. You'll learn why more and more cities are planning to make cars far less necessary for contemporary city-dwellers and how they're planning to achieve that goal. You'll also find strategies for cities to recover and adapt to benefit residents, saving them precious time; techniques to change the habits of automobile-dependent city residents and maximize social benefits of living in a human-centric city; and scientifically developed, research-backed solutions for enduring urban issues.
An essential, timely resource, The 15-Minute City will prove invaluable to anyone with an interest in innovative approaches to challenging urban issues that have bedeviled policy makers and city residents since the invention of the car.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

We live in an age when humanity spends 90% of its time indoors, yet the nature around us—especially in America’s cities—has never been more vital. This distancing from nature has sparked crises in mental health, longevity, and hope for the next generation, while also heightening the risks we face from historic floods, heatwaves, and wildfires. Indeed, embracing nature holds untapped potential to strengthen and fortify our cities, suburbs, and towns, providing solutions spanning flood preparation, wildfire management, and promoting longevity.

Story
Jeff Speck has dedicated his career to determining what makes cities thrive. And he has boiled it down to one key factor: walkability. The very idea of a modern metropolis evokes visions of bustling sidewalks, vital mass transit, and a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly urban core. But in the typical American city, the car is still king, and downtown is a place that’s easy to drive to but often not worth arriving at. Making walkability happen is relatively easy and cheap; seeing exactly what needs to be done is the trick.

A text-book review on the concept
The author goes line by line on an explanation of the entire concept of 15-minute cities. I'm about halfway thru right now and I've gotten a better understanding of the key terms involved in the design. There is nothing about conspiracies in this. It lists facts and figures in a matter-of-fact way and does not pass judgement. It is a dense listen/read so I do find myself hitting rewind often, but I am very interested in the topic. This is the most comprehensive and condensed collection of the information on this topic that I have found so far.
