About this listen
In the tradition of the spiritual classics The Shack and The Screwtape Letters comes a captivating and poignant debut novel from the revered Jesuit priest and New York Times best-selling author of Jesus and The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything.
A divorced single mom, Anne can barely cope with life and struggles to make sense of the death of her young son.
A former architect with a promising career, Mark works as a handyman and wonders how his life got off track.
The abbot of the Abbey of Saints Philip and James, Father Paul sometimes questions whether he made the right decision in secluding himself so thoroughly from the world.
At this Pennsylvania abbey, this unlikely trio will discover the answers they seek - a miracle of hope and understanding that bears witness to the power of God to bring healing and wholeness to our lives.
Written with the compassion, insight, and warmth of his previous best sellers - Jesus, Between Heaven and Mirth, and The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything - Father James Martin's debut novel is infused with deep spiritual wisdom, wry humor, and loving grace. Through his characters' struggles, questions, and crises, we see firsthand how God uses our worries, anger, doubts, prayers, failures, and longings to help us complete ourselves and feel wholly loved.

Story
The Ignatian goal of "finding God in all things" eans that every part of our lives can lead us to God. The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything shows us how this is possible, with user-friendly examples, humorous stories and anecdotes from the heroic and inspiring lives of Jesuit saints and average priests and brothers, as well as examples from Martin's twenty years as a Jesuit. The traditional wisdom that Jesuits use to help other people in their daily lives is easily applied, but not often explained well to the general public.

Story
C. S. Lewis's dazzling allegory about Heaven and Hell - and the chasm fixed between them - is one of his most brilliantly imaginative tales, where we discover that the gates of Hell are locked from the inside. In a dream, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon in Hell and embarks on an incredible voyage to Heaven. Anyone in Hell is invited on board, and anyone may remain in Heaven if he or she so chooses. But do we really want to live in Heaven?

Through the predecessors of four modern men and women, we experience the entire colorful history of the Jews, including the life of the early Hebrews and their persecutions, the impact of Christianity, the Crusades, and the Spanish Inquisition, all the way to the founding of present-day Israel and the Middle East conflict.

The Jesus movement of the '70s was a heady time. It was a time of Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell. It was a time of the Doobie Brothers telling us that “Jesus Is Just Alright with Me”, and Norman Greenbaum singing about a “Spirit in the Sky”. It was a time when Jesus was going to return any day, according to the best-selling book The Late Great Planet Earth. It was a time of the Rapture, Armageddon, and the Antichrist. Dave Warnock’s faith took root during this intoxicating era.

No one loves Christmas more than editorial assistant Eve Pilkins. But when her boss hits her with a huge deadline on Christmas Day, it looks like Eve's favourite time of the year might be cancelled. Armed with as much enthusiasm as she can muster, she travels to the coldest part of England, tasked with ensuring brooding author Edward Priest finishes his latest novel on time. The festive spirit at Cranberry Cross is as dark as the house itself; without a fairy light in sight, it looks like only a Christmas miracle can save this one. Will Eve be up to the task?

evangelizing in a new era
very easy storyline; quite endearing in fact. but as a Catholic what I loved is how the realities of living our faith plays out for youbg people, priests/religious, gay people, divorcees, fallen away catholics.... we all need to open our hearts --- ideally with some spiritual direction along the way --- to discover Jesus in all things in our not so perfect existence! God bless Fr Jim Martin!

A non fiction gem
I finally listened to this after downloading it many moons ago. So glad I did. I have enjoyed all Fr Jim’s books. He is a great author and narrator.
