About this listen

This set includes five tales of extraordinary heroism, marvelous intrigue, and exceptional courage that have inspired and amazed people for generations. Gulliver’s Travels is Jonathan Swift’s comic tale of an Englishman who journeys to four fantastical and exotic lands filled with unforgettable characters, from the pint-size Lilliputians to the giant Brobdingnagians. The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood takes us to Sherwood Forest, where the brigand and his band of “merry men” rob from the rich to give to the poor — to the consternation of the Sheriff of Nottingham. The Jungle Book transports readers into a wondrous world where danger lurks behind every drooping vine and the law of the jungle is the key to survival. Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island follows young Jim Hawkins as he learns the ways of the buccaneer from a group of seafaring miscreants, including the nefarious peg leg, Long John Silver. White Fang by Jack London recreates the forbidding world of the Yukon Gold Rush, where a wild dog must endure violence, hardship, and bitter cold on his journey from savagery to civilization.

Treasure Island and Robin Hood were the best

How to review 4 books in one? Treasure ISLAND was my favorite with Robin Hood a surprising 2nd. I had high expectations of White Fang based on memories of the animated show from my childhood which I think was unfair. The story just wasn't all that deep I guess. Jungle Book was good but the secondary stories maybe took away from it a bit.

A Mixed Bag but the Highs Outshine the Lows

The quality comes and goes with this audiobook, both with story and narration, but overall this was enjoyable.

Gulliver's Travels and White Fang stand out as interesting, well-presented stories that I highly recommend. On the other end of the spectrum The Jungle Book wasn't my cup of tea and the "Indian" accents were cringe-worthy enough to make Kipling proud.

All in all I recommend this set for the high points but feel free to skip a story if either the content or presentation don't suit you.

not what I was hoping for

The classical stories are as good as I had hoped, mostly, but the format went on and on and on.....drone-iish. I tried to change the playback speed a bit to see if the pace change would invigorate the listen.....nope just made the accents more difficult to comprehend. I enjoyed the Treasure Island and Robin Hood stories but not so much of the others.
your mileage may vary.

I love old english.

all of it except for book 2 3 & 4 of The Jungle Book exceptional. I didn't care for the writing style of the Jungle Book, guess I was spoiled by the movie. Treasure Island was awesome impeccable English accent nailed it. Robin Hood was a great story. Not the same that is reproduced or depicted in any of the movies however, it was a solid story. the narrator did an excellent job. if I did read this again I would probably stop after Treasure Island.

Great books horribly organized

I really liked the books and the narrator, but I just couldn't find the books that I wanted. I didn't care for one or two of the books. But I would give it an overall four of five stars. Still a great performance.

Ready for an Adventure

Any additional comments?

This was a great collection, I enjoyed travelling through Sherwood with Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men. Listening to Gulliver fall into misfortune and triumph, strength and weakness. From White Fang to The Jungle Book, all stories each person should listen to once in their life. These stories open our eyes to a new world and inspire us to be heroic and honorable in the hardest times.
