About this listen

In early nineteenth-century Russia, the threat of Napoleon’s invasion looms, and the lives of millions are about to be changed forever. This includes Pierre Bezúkhov, illegitimate son of an aristocrat; Andrew Bolkónski, ambitious military scion; and Natásha Rostóva, compassionate daughter of a nobleman. All of them are unprepared for what lies ahead. Alongside their fellow compatriots - a catalog of enduring literary characters - Pierre, Andrew, and Natásha will be irrevocably torn between fate and free will.

Through the bonds of love and family, and all that can break them, Tolstoy examines the effects of war on every strata of society in his masterwork of intimate - and epic - social history.

Revised edition: Previously published as War and Peace, this edition of War and Peace (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

It's a long book but I always looked forward to continue to listen to the book. I was so engaged as if I were a part of the story and the characters were living here and now...

One of the best books I've ever read / audited!

Tolstoy's War and Peace is a grand work that lays out in great detail the struggles of the Russian people to overcome the Invasion Napoleon's Army. The personal details of the lives and characters of these struggles are descriptive, informative, and insightful.

A great work of historical fiction

Wow…my first Tolstoy book. The author makes me appreciate the skill set of character building and developing a story based on historical events.
It’s a long haul, but it beat binge watching the garbage these days and the epilogue on free will was refreshing, given we can’t even talk about individuals devoted to faith…without getting cancelled.
Dive in. You will not regret it.

Long haul but worth reading a classic

Narrator carried me through this tome , well done, and I mean, the ending was anticlimactic but this is thorough storytelling

It is a monumental undertaking but I encourage anyone interested in good literature or historical novels to read Tolstoy.

Leo Tolstoy again delivers a deep and meaningful message about people and their intimate relationships, how war can affect those, and what faith and character can achieve in the worst of situations. Extremely long but well worth it.

A Must Read

I am glad I listened to this! It took awhile but it was worth it. There’s definitely more war then peace but the narrator did an amazing job and made it enjoyable to listen to. The story is amazing and the philosophy at the end is wonderful! Tolstoy had an advanced mind and ability to contemplate and communicate life.

A great book!

This is a long story that is broken up into separate books. Every now and than the writer writes about events and how they came about and the out come. Like explaining the story. the last book is just the author talking about mankind and its thinking and emotions.

Long Book

Edoardo Ballerini makes this 551/2 hours dreamlike. Don’t be discouraged by it’s length. You will see why this book is timeless.
