About this listen

In Geneva, American lawyer Joel Converse meets a man he hasn’t seen in twenty years, a covert operative who dies violently at his feet, whispering words that hand Converse a staggering legacy of death: “The generals . . . they’re back . . . Aquitaine!” Suddenly Converse is running for his life, alone with the world’s most shattering secret. Pursued by anonymous executioners to the dark corners of Europe, he is forced to play a game of survival by blood rules he thought he’d long left behind. One by one, he traces each thread of a lethal progression to the heart of every major government, a network of coordinated global violence that no one believes possible—no one but Converse and the woman he once loved and lost, the only two people on earth who can wrest the world from the iron grasp of Aquitaine.

The Aquitaine Progression is a well written, complex, somewhat confusing international thriller intrigue novel written by a guy who used to do voices in commercials. The narrator, Rob Shapiro does an outstanding job with the voices of the many characters in the book. German, French, Dutch and a sprinkling of a few other European languages are throughout the novel. It's worth a read. Rest in peace, Mr. Ludlum.

The Aquitaine Progression well written complex

Certainly long, but the story flows and is captivating. Like other books by Ludlum, the action doesn't lend itself to sensationalism, but is apt for the story. Worth your time.

Another great Ludlum

The story was great but it is repetitive of detail, and a lot of characters. But the ending was pretty good, and the story was very imaginative.

Good story, but is a little long

I’ve never listened to this narrator before but he was outstanding. The story was very interesting, complex, and kept my attention the whole time. It was nice to read a thriller with character development that didn’t feature gratuitous sex and constant profanity.

Great story, outstanding performance

Like most of Ludlams books, this is hard to put down. Most of the writers that tried to copy his ideas just can't hold water.

It won't let you down.

Well read
Story was a tough sell
A bit unrealistic in some parts but entertaining. The character progressed like a James Bond character where instead of killing him , the bad guys kept letting him live. A few too many close calls that magically came out OK. I stayed with it - pretty good

Pretty good
