Publisher's summary

For fifteen years, Nicholas Bryson was a top deep-cover operative for the Directorate, a clandestine branch of U.S. intelligence. After nearly being killed during a failed Tunisian coup d'atat, he was retired to a quiet new identity as a college professor in Pennsylvania. Now, five years later, the CIA has contacted Bryson to tell him that his former employer was in fact using him against his own country's interests. The CIA wants Bryson's knowledge and expertise to help shut down the Directorate for good.

But Bryson's skills are rusty, his contacts unreliable, and he doesn't know whom he can trust. Nor does he know why he suddenly finds himself in an assassin's crosshairs. Is this somehow tied to the worldwide increase in terrorism? To the shadowy Prometheus? And Elena, his wife, his love, who abruptly left him years ago - was she who she seemed to be?

A spine-tingling adventure that sweeps us from Washington to the Mideast, Europe, Russia, China, and the deepest reaches of cyberspace, The Prometheus Deception is classic Ludlum - a world of murderous wheels within wheels where nothing and no one are what they appear, and violence and sudden death lurk around every corner.

I am now a Rober Ludlum Fan!

The title "The Prometheus Deception" is what originally grabbed my attention. I know that you should not judge a book by it's cover but I am glad I did in this instance. The Prometheus Deception is my kind of book. Suspense, travel, twists and turns, a wonderful listen. I wish that I could have had the unabridged version. I could have listened to this book for days!

Too close for comfort

So much of what is in this plot is actual reality today. Seems like Ludlum is sending a warning to us all. I couldn’t stop listening. Listened to the whole thing and even made excuses to people so I could listen without interruption.

The reader was the lacking.

The overly emotional, almost forced whisper of the reader was annoying. Other than that, good story.

Read the full book...

There is way to much edited out and this performance was too... I don’t know how to describe it...too “breathy” it was like the announcer for a movie trailer...every sentence seems to end in an ellipsis...

A waste of Frank Muller's talent...

The story feels like it was written with Hollywood in mind, Frank Muller was the only thing that kept me listening through to the end.

Missed Details

I am an avid reader of espianage and have enjoyed most of the books written by Tom Clancy. I therefore thought I would try A Ludlum work. I found it mildly entertaining, but was put off by some of, what seemed to me, Glaring inconsistancies. For example, We have the hero running through a ship chased by hoards of enemies with nothing but a pistol with one shot in it. In the course of the chase he manages to kill two well armed men in close proximaty, but doesn't think to take the few minutes necessary to take their weapons. Shortly after that we find him in a similar situation and he kills another, and again does not retrieve the weapon. It seems to me he thrives on self destruction. Unfortunately, this book is riddled with such inconsistancies. Another irritating element of this story is how easily he (the protagonist)is persuaded to believe one group or another. He first buys the CIA's story and then reverses when he is told another by Mr. Waller. Given the unreliability of the information he should have at least demanded some substantial proof, or waited to jump on board until he had confirmed the facts. Another problem was his discription of events. They don't make sense. For example, In one scene he is chasing an attacker and fires a shot which he says strikes the combatant in the chest. How was this possible if he was running away. Perhaps he turned to confront our hero, but how then is it possible for him to fall dead after he is shot and be on his stomach. Are we to believe that the assailant after being shot, executed a perfect 360 degree spin and landed on his stomach? Uh, I had a few issues with that. Anyway, I am used to the well thought out plots and well researched stories of Tom Clancy. I will try one more of his books, but it better be better than this one.

This novel is too complicated to enjoy

I could not enjoy this book because there were too many subplots. Every time I thought I had the characters straight in my mind, the author added ten more characters that did not seem to even fit what I thought the plot actually was. I never did figure out the real plot, so I started reading a different book. Two thumbs down for The Prometheus Deception!
