About this listen

Job Pressure

Colin MacIntyre's life as a NASA astronaut might not have been exciting, but at least it was orderly. Unfortunately, he's been tapped for greater things, and he isn't too sure he likes it.

First he was kidnapped by an ancient, self-aware starship masquerading as Earth's moon. Then he was drafted as its captain to suppress a 5,000-year-old mutiny. And then he had to mobilize the planet against the attack of an eons-old ancient menace dedicated to the eradication of all intelligent life in the galaxy!

It's hard to blame him for feeling a little stressed, but there's something Colin MacIntyre doesn't know about all the things he's had to do.

They were the easy part.

Better than book 1

Weber did a better job delivering an interesting and exciting story. I'm glad I decided to get book 2 despite my unhappiness with book 1. I was able to get into this story and became vested in some if the characters. I'll look for book 3. The narration was solid and well done, but nothing stood out with the performance.

And the Humans Battle On

Another excellent story by David Weber. Although, at times, I find the battles scenes endless, they seem to contribute to the overall storyline.

I do find the medieval conversations of Tani to be annoying and distracting.

Amazing!

An amazing ride that hits you right in the feels and leaves you desperate to find out what happens later in the story.

The characters were very relatable. The reader was excellent.

The book was very engaging. The story was interesting, but it got a little long-winded at time and it just seemed like it was a different variation of the terminator or Battlestar Galactica. I did enjoy it, but I’m not gonna listen to anymore of the books.

Really enjoying the series

Two books down and still enjoying the story. I'll give a final review over the whole series.

Great listen!

I love the story of Dahak, told in a way that you could believe it could actually be true. I read the books and have listened to the series at least 3 times through and it never gets old!

A sentient AI as a friend

Colin captains the ancient ship Dahak working with a sentient AI of the same name. The story starts with the two on a search for help from the Empirium that created Dahak to help Earth fend off the ancient menace. Colin and Dahak the AI, become friends.

As Colin has to make life and death situations, he obsesses about putting friends in danger. He comes close to rejecting the plan with the best odds for success because of that reluctance. A fleet commander has to be able to make those hard decisions.

Excellent Sequel!

Love this sequel! What a vast universe and history we get to explore and engage with; and such a fun new twist on technology and spacefaring. I love this reality Weber has crafted! We need more in the Dahak series, there's only one more after this currently, and it's just as intriguing! Enjoy!
