About this listen

A presentation on the Tibetan Buddhist path to enlightenment, through the lens of an artist's eye and experience.

The sacred arts play an essential, intrinsic role in Tibetan Buddhist practice. Here, one of the great practitioners and master artists of our time presents a guide to the Tibetan Buddhist path, from preliminary practices through enlightenment, from the artist's perspective. With profound wisdom, he shows how visual representations of the sacred in paintings, sculptures, mandalas, and stupas can be an essential support to practice throughout the path. This work, based on the author's landmark Tibetan text, The Path to Liberation, includes basic Buddhist teachings and practices, clearly pointing out the relevance of these for both the sacred artist and the practitioner, along with an overview of the history and iconography of Buddhist art.

Deep Understandingof Sacred Buddhist Art presented respectfully and clearly

When I first heard that Lopon Konchog Lhadrapie's renowned text for Thanka painters of Himalayan sacred art was translated into English ... I was overjoyed. Being an artist with profound respect for this gendre and having met several of Lopon Konchog's disciples in art training ...it was clear to me that here was an artist and instructor who was authentic, gifted and true to the tradition of sacred art for the BuddhaDharma.

On completion of this tome, I realized that this is a text that is useful for anyone who wishes to understand the benefits, aspirations, tradition, culture and guidelines of Buddhist Practice. Explained so clearly and humbly by someone who has lived inside the tradition his whole life.

This text is not only about Buddhist Himalayan Art, but of the value and insights of devotional practice and ceremonial psychology.

I recommend this text to anyone who really seeks to understand Buddhist Himalayan Art, tradition, view and way of being. A window into the tradition that is often reserved for only the ordained or initiated practitioner into the heart of devotion and an understanding of the blessings that come with pure aspiration and an understanding of creating sacred art.

Deep bows of gratitude and appreciation,
