Publisher's summary

The final part of the critically acclaimed Braided Path trilogy.

The war that is tearing apart the ancient Empire of Saramyr is reaching its apocalyptic conclusion. The Weavers have stepped from the shadows and taken control, the capital is a demon-haunted nightmare, the land ridden by pestilence. New, terrifying demons, immune to all but magic, have been unleashed on the cities and armies of the resistance movement. And the Aberrant hordes are seemingly without end.

As the madness of the weavers takes hold their tactics become even more crazed and bloody, and thousands are dying on both sides. Someone must stop the weavers, someone must discover the secrets of what lies at the bottom of the massive pits they have dug across Saramyr.

This is the final volume of what has proved to be one of the most original, exotic and exciting epic fantasies of the 21st century. Chris Wooding melds an extraordinary imagination with deft characterisation and a flair for gripping plots.

Great ending!

Either I got used to the narrator's voice or her pacing improved. she has a pretty broad cast of sounds and I enjoyed her dramatic inflections. I will listen to her in the future, I think. I found it easier to tell when a scene or POV altered.

The story arcs wrap up well and I enjoyed the series. I could have used refresher descriptions of a few of the monster subtypes. I realized at one point I thought that the armored shock troop types were like rhinoceros on steroids but then later they seemed more humanoid.

**Spoiler**
it's hard to create unique ideas these days and I enjoyed the backstory, how the small struggle fit against the grand Master evil plan... and yet... the revelation at the end where the godlike protagonist was in essence.. an AI of this legion of creatures... it removed some of the visceral loathing I wanted to have for the bad guy.

I loved loved the Assura-Kaiku story lines. Apologies for any misspelling of names... its all audio book for me.
