The Assassin's Wife is a thrilling tale of political intrigue set in current America. A jealous, deranged husband assassinates the president-elect of the United States two weeks before inauguration, and, for the first time in history, a vice-president-elect must step up and take the oath of office. Madison Hemsley-Tarlton, a war hero and former governor, will be the new president...if she can stay alive long enough. Questions about the assassination quickly surface and eventually lead to a vicious and mysterious band of men who want to control American power. Who is Madison's enigmatic ally and who will dominate the coming shift in the republic?

Gripping Political Intrigue

What an enjoyable intriguing ride this book is. I was pulled along through the story eager to find out what the characters were all about! i loved the time keeping device that helped me correlate each of the story lines until they merged. I doubly enjoyed it because the auther respected my intellegence and imagination. No graphic scenes to make me blush! So unusual and refreshing. Once I finished the book I had to pick up the next one!

Interesting political intrigue novel!

I purchased The Assassin's Wife by newly published author Dan Daines because I like political thrillers and the average Amazon rating was 4.9 stars. The novel is fast moving, packed with action, has nice twists, and is very violent and gory.

Madison Hemsley-Tarlton, the protagonist, is picked by her party's US presidential nominee to be his running mate. The sitting president loses the election by 2 electoral making Madison VP-elect of the US. Then two weeks before they are to take office her presidential running mate, the president-elect, is assassinated by a sniper. Madison suffers a minor injury. The novel is set in the present so the US Constitution as amended determines Madison is to be president-elect,

Madison Hemsley-Tarlton is no ordinary person. She was a US Marine pilot and became the first woman to be awarded the Metal of Honor. She then started a technology company in Silicone Valley which she sold for a fortune; and then she did the same thing again. She then was elected governor of California. Meanwhile her husband of three years died seven years ago in the war in Afghanistan leaving her a the single mother of a very young daughter.

Important people in government and the private sector do not want Madison to take office, so they are determined to kill her using whatever means necessary. The only issues I have with The Assassin's Wife is the intensity and constancy of gory violence. Listeners who object likely should skip this novel.

This novel is my first exposure to narrator Andrea Bates. Her voice seems androgynous to me. She does male voices better than female voices. She also does a great job narrating.

Boring!

Couldn’t finish! Narrator wasn’t the best.
I kept losing interest, and having to listen again.
