About this listen

It has been two years since Lady Marion Tunstall lost her husband at sea, two years of sorrow and grief. Only now has the comely young widow finally reentered society. It is then, when she and her family attend the merriment of a country dance, that Lady Marion sees her dead husband, alive and well - and faints dead away.

Lord Tristan Tunstall has no choice but to confess: He is alive, yes, but not a whole man who can be a husband and father. When he offers her a divorce, however, Marion stubbornly refuses. Now she has forced herself back into his life and into his home and (oh, God forgive his weakness) his bed. He cannot stop himself from wanting her, loving her. But can he live with the secret she is keeping from him?

Each one of this series is such a joy to listen to. I get more invested in the family as I go. I’ve only got 3 more books to go and I’m already dreading the series end.ing.😔

Another good listen

1st I'll get out of the way...my reason why Performance got 3 not 5 stars. The book states the wife's voice is low & sultry (or the like, smooth & soft?), but this narrator, who was good, & did malev oices ok (showing she could've made the wife's voice much, much better!), made this sweet wife sound flighty, fast & shakey. Went totally against how the book described her voice, or else perhaps it wouldn't have been a big deal (tho' I really personally don't care for fast, shakey, English, scared & weak femaile voices in any of these era of books & normally would return, but this story grabbed me, so I kept listeninganyway) . Rhe story was so wonderful & well-written, the mother of our wife was such a warm, wise, loving mother with great advice, & the husband you could feel so bad for his lot in life (altho' again his voice could've been better also)...both the H & h voices were too fast, shakey & kind of squeaky. maybe trying to play it a bit slower may help? Come what may, as long as you can handle the voices not being so well done, it was a lovely romance and you will greatly admire the wife who simply never NOT give up! Cudos to her, as she got her dream come true in the end, which is rare in our world today.

So wonderful I went thru it in 1 day!

While I understand where Tristan is coming from, he is so unlikable. He was angry and miserable for way to long in this book. It made it hard to get through. Marion should have just left him to be miserable. I mean I know they love each other, but sheesh! He was emotionally abusive to her and she just took it... no thank you ma'am! I would have rather been ruined by divorce than deal with all that drama.

Rough to get through.

Need more like this because I do have a disability and it was nice to hear a story like this because I am too legally blind. So I don’t know why people gave it such a bad review I think it was OK.

A but if a frustrating story…especially the whining of a particular character. Glad to connect dots in the series…just wanted more strength and less whine. Maybe better with wine?

Not my favorite

I know from the other books that this was a possible scenario. It was a bit disappointing, a typical return from the dead scenario, but how many ways are there to come back to life? liked the strong women figure she become from the wasted mess in the first books, very unlike the perceived version of 1800's women. how she would not be cased a side,

Bana-not as enjoyable, still a good book

I so love stories of hope during adversities. The author added sparkle and sweet comedy as well. Found myself chuckling often.

A Delightful Story

Well, another good story in this series. This time we have deception, stubbornness and determination all mixed together. Marion Tunstall, sister of the Duke of Manchester, still grieves for her dead husband until she spots him across the room on the arms of another woman at a country dance. For two years she thought her husband lost, presumed dead at sea after a fierce naval battle. Having been rescued but sustaining an injury that blinded him and left him with amnesia for awhile, Lord Trustan Tunstall has determined that Marion's life would be better off if she continues to believe he perished at sea. But Marion is having nothing to do with his crazy notions. She worms her way back into his life determined to continue her life with the man she loves despite his protest because she knows he still loves her.
