For over three decades, Ellen Datlow has been at the center of horror. Bringing you the most frightening and terrifying stories, Datlow always has her finger on the pulse of what horror listeners crave. Now, with the eighth volume of the series, Datlow is back again to bring you the stories that will keep you up at night.
Encompassed in the audio of The Best Horror of the Year have been such illustrious writers as: Neil Gaiman; Kelley Armstrong; Stephen King; Linda Nagata; Laird Barron; Margo Lanagan; and many others.
With each passing year, science, technology, and the march of time shine light into the craggy corners of the universe, making the fears of an earlier generation seem quaint. But this light creates its own shadows. The Best Horror of the Year chronicles these shifting shadows. It is a catalog of terror, fear, and unpleasantness as articulated by today's most challenging and exciting writers.

It is really cool to see how the selected authors have improved, changed, remain “steady as she goes” and of course, (not without constant digging) the new talent that Ellen’s anthologies have brought to light; even making them relevant launching them into new success.
Not every story is going to “THRILL”. that is asking way too much of any anthology, period! For me, anthologies are about appreciating the writers direction or misdirection; and sound well thought out storytelling while attempting to surmise if the author achieved THEIR desired result- not necessarily just mine. Of course, yes I want to be entertained and want to be held in suspense; truly anxious; in fear chilled to the core is really awesome- AND REALLY RARE these days! The desensitization factor should play deep into everything we read before beating up the writer and pooping all over their manuscript!??? Be fair and you will then thoroughly enjoy this eighth volume of fourteen “Best Horror of The Year”!
Bernard S Clark alone makes this anthology awesome!
