About this listen

She has complete control - and he's determined to take it away. A librarian in the small town of Hood River, Natalie Clayton's world is very nearly perfect. After a turbulent childhood and her once-wild ways, life is now under control. But trouble has a way of turning up unexpectedly - especially in the tall, charismatically sexy form of Paddy Hurley. And Paddy is the kind of trouble that Natalie has a taste for. Even after years of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, Paddy never forgot the two wickedly hot weeks he once shared with Natalie. Now he wants more - even if it means tempting Natalie and her iron-grip control. But there's a fine line between well-behaved and misbehaved - and the only compromise is between the sheets!

The BEST Kind of Trouble & Start To Series

I absolutely love Lauren Dane and think she is a genius in writing naughty, contemporary romances. The Brown family series, the Chase Brothers series and a few standalone are some of my favorites. I got them several years ago, I have listened more than once and know that I will listen again to those same books in the future.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Hurley boys. It may be that I have been listening to several rock band series and am bored or well, I don't know.

Natalie has complete control over her life now. Something she covets because she didn't have it as a child. As a party girl, back in the day, she has a two-week fling with front man, Paddy Hurley (I wasn't thrilled with the name Paddy for a guy. Perhaps if it was the narrator was speaking in a thick Irish brogue it would have been better) before his band hit it big. But now she is different, enjoying her quiet life.

The Hurley boys have settled in Hood River and in one day Paddy and Natalie run into one another. She pretends she doesn't know him – even after he puts several reminders out to her. She want nothing to do with the wild man or his lifestyle.

The chase is endearing but superficial to the listener. There isn't much of a deep plot and it ended rather predictable. However, it is not billed as a thriller, a mystery or suspense. It is a hot, contemporary romance with many, many hot scenes! Sometimes that is just what one needs!

The narrator was good. Though she made Natalie's best friend "Tuesday" (are we running out of names?) sound like a man, even though the character is a woman. Other than that it is an acceptable performance.

Note: Definitely for the 18+ crowd with with mature themes and strong language

Enjoyed this

I really liked this book - the chemistry and heat between Paddy and Natalie. I wish the male voices sounded a bit more masculine. And I REALLY wanted Bob to get some kind of smack down. Now. On to the next in the series . . .

Natalie Wimps Out

Librarian Natalie was a strong, assertive and endearing character until the 13th chapter, when she turned all her personal power over Paddy because he told her she wasn't strong enough to know what was good for her. Yikes!

Really, Paddy declared that she was a stupid, weak woman and she just said YES, I am not intelligent to make adult decisions. Wow, a female author actually believes that women are too stupid to survive without a man in control.

It is sad and depressing that women writers are promoting the misogynist belief that their own gender does not serve respect and admiration. Even worse, some female readers find these degrading and dangerous beliefs romantic or erotic.

More importantly, why did Paddy need to dominate and control Natalie in order to feel powerful and manly? Why was Paddy intimated by confident and independent women?

Disappointed with performance

Story line was good not great. Paddy and Natalie had a past that was memorable. Natalie had been living n his hometown for years and always knew the day she came face-to-face with Paddy Hurley again.

There were ups and downs with their reunion, but the chemistry was still there and more. The both had a level of control issues. Natalie ' was more out of self preservation than anything.

Watching their relationship grow and mature was good. I found a few flaws in the combination of the story's ending and the bland narration. There was no true distinction in male and female voices. That most of all burns my butt.

I liked the premise

I tried to like this and it was okay, but it just didn’t make me want to keep listening. I think it’s just me, but these all seem to be too much alike for my taste. Good narration kept me going for a while but it couldn’t get me to the end.

Hot Trouble

Natalie is a small town librarian. One morning in the coffee shop she sees rock star, Patrick (Paddy) Hurley. Natalie and Patrick had a two week fling long ago before Patrick’s band hit it big, and Natalie remembers it fondly. However, she’s made a lot of changes in her life since then, and she’s not interested in the chaos she’s sure Paddy will bring with him. Paddy is very interested in her, though, and he really wants another chance to explore the explosive chemistry they had years ago and to see what Natalie is like now. Natalie has a history that has left her with a lot of triggers. Her mother left her when she was 3 and her father has been a drug addict all her life. Natalie is a heiress that has a huge trust fund, but she works hard at her job and volunteering and she is very private about her personal life having got control of her life in college. Paddy's life as a sexy hot as hell rock is too much for her. These too have a lot of chemistry the sex scenes are hot, but either one of them no how to have a relationship without pushing each others buttons. I loved the way Ms. Dane wrote this book it was well written and read as I listened to this book on audio. I also liked The Hurley family a lot they were close and had each others back and their mother Sharon was tough as nails and was willing to do anything to help her boys. As the band works on their new album things get intense between Nat and Paddy and she gets nervous about his touring with all the groupies. I loved that Paddy was willing to fight for Nat something that he has never had to do before with a woman. This book is the first in the Hurley Boys series and I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series Ezra and Tuesday with both of them having dark past I am sure that I will love it. If you like hot sexy Rock Stars I recommend that you read this book.

Sort of liked it, maybe

This book was difficult to decide if I liked it or not. I really liked the main characters, then they became boring, frustrating idiots somewhere in the middle of the book.

Luckily Lauren Dane is a good story teller so there was still enough there to like, though not enough to ‘really like’.

Awesome Sauce

This book was great and realistic but the story left without finishing about the dad.
