About this listen

The sharpest ache comes from wanting what you think you can't have....

Maybe Dolan has lived independent, free-spirited, and unattached since leaving home at 16. Whiskey Sharp, Seattle's sexy vintage-styled barbershop and whiskey bar, gave her a job - and a reason to put down roots. Cutting hair by day, losing herself drumming in a punk rock band by night, she's got it good.

But a longtime crush that turns into a hot, edgy night with brooding and bearded Alexsei Petrov makes it a hell of a lot better.

Maybe's blunt attitude and carnal smile hooked Alexsei from the start. Protecting people is part of his nature, and Maybe is meant to be his...even if she doesn't know it. Yet. He can't help himself from wanting to protect and care for her.

But Maybe's fiery independent spirit means pushing back when Alexsei goes too far. Still, he's not afraid to do a little pushing of his own to get what he wants - her in his life, and his bed, for good. Maybe's more intoxicating than all the liquor on his shelf...and he's not afraid to ride the blade's edge to bind her to him.

Maybe is a poor choice for heroine's name

The story was good, but I never could get over the heroine's name being Maybe. While the story of how she ended up being called that was cute, it was very jarring to me every time her name was used as it threw me out of the story and made me feel like it was a non-stop bad Abbott and Costello joke.

Not Much of a Plot

Unraveled has really no plot to speak of -- just some family drama (including some that wasn't resolved, but I'm guessing it's for the next book). Perfectly fine, but that's it. Probably not worth the credit.

Maybe (a nickname for Gladys, which she hates) and Alexi get together after eyeing each other for the past two years while they worked together in Whiskey Sharp, a barbershop and bar. Yep, that's the plot. For the last 90% of the book, they deal with some family problems on both sides. Some minor, some more than that. They are likable characters, especially Maybe (described by her sister as a hummingbird - high energy and colorful). But the book went on and on without much of anything happening.

Nice narration by Simone Lewis.

I’m loving my new Russian

Maybe (yeah that’s her name) is sassy, smart, funny, and fiercely protective of her sister Rachel. When she decides that her boss needs some of her sassy in his life, the fireworks explode..but can she keep her sadness away from the protective and loyal Russian and still keep him in her life.

Alexsei has decided that after 2 years and one broken engagement, it’s time to make a move on his quirky employee. When they come together it’s hot and he falls for her fast..but can he get her to show him her broken pieces so he can help her glue them back together?

I’m loving this new series. Maybe and Alexsei are so cute together and the antics of his family are funny. I can’t wait to delve into Rachel’s story so we can not only understand what she’s been through, but what the hell her parents are up to.

Lauren never disappoints when she writes about relationships and family dynamics. This small group of Russian Americans will give us an inside look at Russian culture but also remind us that a man taking care of his woman is universal.

Great book, characters, and series. Anxiously waiting for book 2.

Felt like a friend's about me instead of a novel.

Progressed how a friend or acquaintance tells their story. "I moved. Got job. Met a boy. My family drama persisted, and that brings us to today." Not unexpected or surprising in a way I expect from novelists. More like how a friend step-by-step matter-of-factly relays the points of a story.

I love all things Lauren Dane and this one didn't disappoint! The characters in this book were all very interesting and they pulled me in from the beginning. The romance in this story was almost a friends to lovers story because they knew each other, worked together and were very comfortable around each other before they finally came together. Maybe is a very chatty hair dresser with a lot of family baggage. Her sister was probably the most interesting character for me in this book and I can't wait to get to her story because it's going to be good!!! Her past almost made this book feel like I had missed the first book because it was mentioned as if we already knew her story but we didn't. Alexsei is Maybe's boss and a hot protective Russian who's entire family lives next door to Maybe. Now his characters was very likable and everything but his family was great!! I think they are going to make this series a lot of fun!

The narration was really good... Thankfully! I'm usually disappointed with this publishers audio narration choices for this authors books so I went in with low expectations and was happily wrong. Simone Lewis did a great job on this book, especially the Russian accent!!!

Great Set up with lovable characters

The story of Alexi and Maybe, yes that’s the name she likes to be called, is clearly a foundation. I think having such strong characters first makes more sense for the follow up stories because the heroine and her love both needed to be seen as imperfect and yet able to be strong and supportive for everyone in their lives in anyway. There was no action just pure romance and the way love can grow in people when they need support from one another.

Boring.

There wasn’t really a point to this book. The couple had known each other for years and were already in love basically. No build at all. Waste of time. I almost quit listening 5 or 6 times but ended up finishing..pointless
