The beloved characters from The Best Man movies and hit television series reunite for a sexy and soulful, heartbreaking and hilarious reckoning of love.

Recently divorced and fresh off a Pulitzer Prize win, Harper Stewart is in a new era. He’s working on a movie and living the ultimate bachelor life in his Brooklyn penthouse. But still, something is missing. What else explains the stubborn creative block? The carousel of women? And seventh-wheel status with his friends?

Jordan Armstrong had to flee New York. First, to give herself distance from Harper and, second, to escape the corporate grind. In her beachfront Malibu property, the façade of a “healed” Jordan flourishes. Yet she finds herself unmoored. Despite the physical distance, she still feels Harper’s magnetic pull.

Meanwhile, in Ghana, Robyn has gone full bohemian restaurateur. She has finally found peace and won’t let another man ruin it—that is, until a handsome local entrepreneur commands her attention. But it’s all too much change for her daughter, Mia, and when she secretly calls Harper with an emergency Robyn would rather hide, their world is shaken and relationships are tested once more.

Book one of The Best Man trilogy follows Harper, Jordan, and Robyn as they try to establish lives away from the hurts of the past and come to realize that some love is impossible to break. With support from their close-knit crew of chosen family—Quentin, Shelby, Lance, Murch, and Candace—they fight for a future that proves one’s second act can be the extended chapter worth it all.

Critic reviews

“An absolute treat . . . soulful, sexy, fast-paced! What a delight, catching up with beloved fan favorites Harper, Jordan, Robyn (and a dazzling supporting cast) as they navigate relationships and their careers all around the world—only to discover that some bonds can never be broken. Unfinished Business is an utterly propulsive, stylish read with so much heart.”—Tia Williams, bestselling author of A Love Song for Ricki Wilde

“This felt like catching up with a group of beloved friends I hadn’t heard from in a while. The complicated relationships, angsty passion, and doses of humor I’ve come to expect from The Best Man franchise . . . it’s all here! Such a treat! This new story is just as cinematic as the movies themselves, maybe even more so.”—Farrah Rochon, New York Times bestselling author of Pardon My Frenchie

“When you’re as close to the characters as I have been, you think you can predict what’s coming around the corner, but this kept even me on the edge of my seat. The Best Man: Unfinished Business dives deeper into the lives of these characters revealing what has made them who they are, the good and the bad. From a second chance romance to wrestling with heartbreak and purpose, Malcolm and Jayne have given the best men and women new life. Emotionally engrossing. Seductive. Impossible to put down. It’s the perfect summer read, full of heat!”—Taye Diggs

Editorial Review

To be continued…
As a longtime fan of The Best Man, I was ecstatic to learn that filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee was continuing his beloved franchise in a new book series. The Best Man: Unfinished Business picks up where the 2022 Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, left off. Delving deeper into Harper, Jordan, and Robyn's lives, Lee and co-author Jayne Allen masterfully navigate each character's personal growth and complexities, while maintaining their friend group's tight-knit dynamic. Stretching from Brooklyn to Malibu to Ghana, this multi-POV novel performed by Jakobi Diem, January LaVoy, and Zenzi Williams weaves together the perfect balance of humor, heart, and hope. With a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that left me desperate for the next installment, I’ve fallen in love with these characters all over again. —Margaret H., Audible Editor

I love this!!! The narration of this was amazing. I could feel each character. I could visualize the characters from the movies. I hated that it had to end.

This was a great pivot to be able to continue this group of friends stories and to help shed more light on their personalities. I will say it was a slooow start but once it picked up...it was on!

An awesome continuation of their story

“Some love is impossible to break.”

I have anxiously awaited the release of this one on Audible and it did not disappoint. I felt like I was welcoming old friends back that I had not seen in a while.

This installment focuses on Harper, Jordan, and Robyn. The other characters make cameos but the focus is definitely on Harper coming to accept who he is. Jordan standing flat footed for what she wants and Robyn getting adjusted to life in Ghana.

Harper’s indecisive, back and forth, I don’t know what to do next behavior absolutely got on my nerves!! But it was a necessary part of his journey.

Now Malcolm Lee needs to be shook real hard for that cliffhanger!!

When is the next one coming out?

I’ve followed Malcolm Lee & the characters portrayed in the Best Man films, miniseries, and now this book since I was in my 20’s. I know these characters well. I am now in my 40’s and I have grown up with these characters over many years. I came across an interview and immediately preordered this book! I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book! The textured layered storylines kept my interest. While some portions of the character’s journeys were predictable, other storylines left me in awe and suspense. The brilliant depiction narrated by three artist who each uniquely captured the essence of these characters through inflection, tone, and intentionality. Each illustrated their depth of understanding of the complex characters as well as their commitment to the reader. The cliffhanger ending to this book has me looking forward to the next installment! Great job Malcolm!

In love with this book!
