About this listen

Recognised as the ultimate dramatisation of Conan Doyle's famous stories, these recordings have been acclaimed since their reissue by Hodder & Stoughton Audiobooks in 1995. They have been carefully remastered so that the sound is as good as possible without destroying the unique ambience of the original performances.

Contents:
"The Blackmailer": Holmes resorts to some lawbreaking of his own in the pursuit of essential evidence on a powerful blackmailer.

"A Scandal in Bohemia": A delicate case involving an ardent monarch and an indiscreet photograph leads Holmes to the one person he could not outwit: the beautiful Irene Adler.

"Silverblaze": Holmes searches for a murderer and a missing racehorse called Silverblaze.

"The Speckled Band": Holmes and Watson are entreated by a woman to get to the bottom of her sister's horrible and mysterious death.

Sherlock Holmes

I have always enjoyed Arthur Conan Doyle's workes. This production reminds me of the old days. Days before TV. Days when radio was the only source of entertainment.

Very well narrated and entertaining

This series, the Best of Sherlock Holmes (1-4), is one of the better and more entertaining versions of the stories I have listened to.
I have listened to quite a few different versions of Sherlock Holmes on Audible and this version is the one I have enjoyed the most.
All of the characters have been voiced well, no doubt there is some experienced talent there.

Wonderful old narrations.

Violin is tiresome but otherwise very good. Great performances by Gielgud. And Richardson. Well worth the money.

Cool.

The actor voicing Sherlock does sound like Jeremy Brett, from the '80s adaptation. Great stuff overall.

Another fine performance

I do immensely love Sherlock Holmes. I’ve read snd heard all I can get my hands on. This rendition with Sir John Gielgud is superb. He was such a talented actor and did a fine job indeed Ruth Mr. Holmes. The only thing I fight like was how long that pauses were along with the overlapping music. It still was a great job well done.
