Publisher's summary

When Sydney Chaplin left D.C. nine years ago for college, she vowed never to return. But when her sister is found brutally murdered, she finds herself drawn once again into the shadowy web of her wealthy, powerful family. Joined by Washington detectives Jack Cassian and Darius Train, and driven by her need to know the truth about her sister's death, Sydney will risk everything - -her life and her family's future - to find the answers.

From the gritty streets and crack dens of the District's inner city, to the posh country clubs and gilded offices of the nation's political elite, Sydney, Cassian, and Train must slip deep into a labyrinth of money, power, and deceit to uncover a decades-old conspiracy that could rock the nation.

Well written story

The story was well written. There were enough twists and turns to keep my interests but not too many that it fell off the rails. The story was well paced throughout and really well performed. Worthwhile read.

Great story, beautifully told

David Hosp has now written three books (I believe) featuring lawyer Scott Finn, his investigator Tom Koslowski and his assistant lawyer Lissa Krantz. I have loved all three and am looking forward to the next. He gives a spectacular view of Boston, from its gritty side to the Back Bay. He writes terrific dialogue and places his characters in sometimes agonizing danger. Even though you know the good guys will eventually win, the methods he uses to twist and turn you through the plot are manifold and believable. The narrators have been top-notch. Like all great writers of historical fiction, he will leave you asking, "Did that really happen?" A delightful read from open to close.

Engaging

Quick engaging story. Nothing spectacular but likable characters. No big twists. Don’t know the one sex scene was pushed over.

phoning it in

I have really enjoyed all of David Hosp's other books. This one is terrible by comparison. Boring, cheesy, predictable. Also, this narrator just does not hold a candle to George Guidall.
