About the Creator

A multiple Emmy nominee, Mankiewicz has served as an Executive Producer on "House of Cards," "Bosch" and "Your Honor." About the Director

Aaron Lipstadt is an American director and producer working primarily in the one-hour television drama format. His interest in movies began in his teens when his sister dragged him to movies at the Yale Film Society. At the University of Chicago, Aaron was active in Doc Films, the school’s venerated film society, and on graduation decided to continue in this direction by entering the doctoral program in Film Theory and Criticism at Northwestern. While working on his PhD, Aaron seized an opportunity to work for legendary low budget filmmaker Roger Corman where he learned the savvy production skills that still serve him, and seized the chance to start directing with the low budget feature ANDROID. The festival success of ANDROID got Aaron noticed by MIAMI VICE producer Michael Mann, which led to a 35+ year career in television, directing multiple pilots and producing a half dozen series, including 6 seasons on the Emmy-winning MEDIUM, starring Patricia Arquette. More recently Aaron has entered the world of audio drama directing the Jon Hamm series THE BIG LIE and its follow up, THE BIG FIX, for Audible.

Not a frequent reviewer, but this one warranted a few words of praise. Was genuinely impressed by the star-studded cast of narrators who delivered outstanding performances both individually and collectively. Found myself so engaged in the twists of its whodunnit plot that I finished the listen in one afternoon! Applause for the author's deft ability at shining light upon a very real and unflattering piece of American history, it being so cleverly weaved into the storyline. I enjoyed this selection immensely and hope its availability in the Audible Plus catalog endures, where its reach is broader.

All star cast! Twisty whodunnit with a wink of true story.

I found it to be an easy listening, reminisce of the Golden Age of Radio. Voice casting was well selected, just enough twists to keep most listeners engaged. And followed the classic recipe of a gumshoe who's soul has a chance at redemption by the one who got away. Right up my alley.

Homage to a Classic Style

This is a great throwback to the noir stories of old. The dialogue is crisp like the old tough guy dashell hammetts. The lead is the perfect actor to voice the role. It organically has a diverse cast.

Good clever noir period piece keeps to guessing and wraps up nicely

It has a great, old time, flare to it. nothing like a good murder mystery with the suspense and great acting that goes along with it. I'll have to find some more stories like this for my downtime

I need to find more serial stories like this

Bringing back the feel of old radio and bringing the history of LA to life. Great story and production.

It was an old fashioned detective story set in the 50’s in LA. There are non-white characters, so when they interact with white characters you can expect some stereotypical attitudes to happen. It’s a good story with plenty of twists and turns. All of the main characters have different actors, so they don’t have to tell you when the characters change, which made it a little difficult for me as I didn’t always recognize the change. Overall, it a good story.

Old Fashioned Detective Story (Mostly)

Well contrived and executed. Enjoyable listen. I don’t like to write long narratives so you’ll have to listen to this gem yourself. 15 word minimum required for submission to “rate and review”.

The old time radio production is certainly a very different genre from someone just reading a book. It wasn’t even a minute into the show before I recognized it wasn’t going to be a simple reading, so I sat back and enjoyed the show. Complete with excellent writing, editing, great acting and the sound effects told me where we were and what was going on. Really enjoyed the show very much!

Old radio type of production: GREAT
