Publisher's summary

When it comes to New York City hardcore, its community proudly boasts Lou and Pete Koller - brothers who have dominated the scene worldwide since 1986 with the aurally devastating Sick of It All as their vehicle.

For Flushing, Queens, natives Lou and Pete Koller, hardcore has become a lifestyle as well as an unlikely career. From the moment these siblings began applying their abilities to punk’s angrier, grimier sub-genre, they quickly became 50 percent of one of the most intense and compelling quartets to ever claim the movement - the legendary New York hardcore band, Sick of it All. Contrary to popular belief, Lou and Pete are proof positive that you don’t need to have lived a street life, or come from a fractured, chaotic home in order to produce world-class hardcore. If Agnostic Front are the godfathers of New York hardcore, then vocalist Lou and guitarist Pete are its grand masters.

The Blood and the Sweat is the no-holds-barred autobiography of two brothers who have never wavered, as well as an unrelenting depiction of the American dream, and the drive and determination required to live it - regardless of whatever obstacles appear before you. Featuring commentary from family, friends, bandmates past and present, and their peers, including Gary Holt (Exodus, Slayer), Kurt Brecht (D.R.I.), Barney Greenway (Napalm Death), and more....

My Youth Revisited

What can I say but excellent! The stories, narrations and utter hilarity made this book! To hear stories I know, shows I've been to and stories I don't know take me back. To a time of NYHC in the Ole Dirty NYC.

The Koller brothers are awesome!

This book was read by the two brother and other band mates.
Sick of it All is a hardcore band that formed in the mid 80’s. I had the privilege to discover them when I was 19 and enjoyed their music since 1989. I will be a fan of theirs for as long as they want to stay together and even longer than that, their music will always live on.
Thank you Sick of it All for all of the years of great music and entertainment.
Long live hardcore and punk!!!

SICK !

I know who this band is but was never a fan per se. I heard a some songs over the years and liked them but I never went out and got one of their albums. I like punk, I like some hardcore but they just kinda flew under my radar. But I saw this book and thought I would give it a listen. The book was fantastic !!! Sick as some might say !!! A great listen to how they started and things they experienced along the way. I have listened to A LOT of band and musicians autobiographies but NEVER have a heard one so AMAZINGLY POSITIVE. Pete and Lou are awesome ! I will have to start checking out their music for sure. Thanks for making 9 hours seam like 20 minutes and making me sad when it ended as I could have gone for another 9 hours no problem !!!

Great stories

I really liked the way it was narrated. All the players did such a great job. I found that some of the stories were out of order not in sync. Probably the editors fault. The ending was a little much for me with the clowning, but all in all I found it entertaining.

Utterly Juvenile

Man, I like SOIA but this reads with all the insight of two fifteen-year old boys. Plus their delivery is like they’re reading it to a five-year old but getting off on all the “f-bombs.” They gripe every chapter about not being bigger than they are. Its also a jumbled mess—get an editor. Totally embarrassing. I wish I’d stuck to the albums.
