About this listen
The long awaited republishing of NYHC Legend, John Bloodclot Joseph's raw and unfiltered autobiography. As real as it gets!
Updated with new chapters.
In his newly updated autobiography, NYHC legend John Bloodclot Joseph recounts his hard times and spiritual redemption. A traumatic childhood in foster homes was just the beginning of John's evolution. Before fronting one of the most important bands in the underground punk scene, the Cro-Mags, John faced homelessness, addiction, betrayal and insanity. Still, even his success couldn't save him from a relapse that set him back to square one - rock bottom. The book is a raw and unapologetic autobiography about his life. Consider yourself warned.

Much has been written about him, but until now we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved.

With over 70 million records sold, Black Sabbath, dubbed by Rolling Stone “the Beatles of heavy metal,” helped create the genre itself, with their distinctive heavy riffs, tuned down guitars, and apocalyptic lyrics. Bassist and primary lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band’s renown, from suggesting the band name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose the lyrics and build the foundation of heavy metal as we know it. In Into the Void, Butler tells his side of the story.

Story
The two-time best-selling author, comedian, actor, and radio icon explains the philosophy that has kept his existence boredom-free since the age of 13 - the love of risk. An avid sports better and frequent card player, Lange believes that the true gambler gets high not from winning, but from the chaotic unknown of betting itself. He recounts some of his favorite moments, many of which haven't involved money at all. In this candid and entertaining memoir, he looks back at the times he's wagered the intangible and priceless things in life: his health, his career, and his relationships.

Short and sporting waist-length dreadlocks, Morris is known the world over for his take-no-prisoners approach on the stage and his integrity off of it. Story
The anti-busing riots of 1974 forever changed Southie, Boston's working-class Irish community, branding it as a violent, racist enclave. Michael Patrick MacDonald grew up in Southie's Old Colony housing project. He describes the way this world within a world felt to the troubled yet keenly gifted observer he was even as a child. But the threats - poverty, drugs, a shadowy gangster world - were real. All Souls is heartbreaking testimony to lives lost too early, and the story of how a place so filled with pain could still be "the best place in the world".

This is the never-before-told story of the musical revolution that happened right under the nose of the Reagan '80s - when a small but sprawling network of bands, labels, fanzines, radio stations, and other subversives reenergized American rock with punk rock's do-it-yourself credo and created music that was deeply personal, often brilliant, always challenging, and immensely influential. This sweeping chronicle of music, politics, drugs, fear, loathing, and faith has been recognized as an indie rock classic in its own right.

But where did this transformative voice come from? In Rebel Girl, Hanna’s raw and insightful new memoir, she takes us from her tumultuous childhood to her formative college years and her first shows. As Hanna makes clear, being in a punk “girl band” in those years was not a simple or safe prospect.

POW!
What a life! I can't give this book the review I'd like to because every other word would be bleeped the F out. Some chapters were painful to listen to, but I wanted to listen to it all and find out what he said at the end. I was blown away by the courage this man has. I listened to the last two chapters of the book before going to sleep for the night. I woke up in the middle of the night seeing a man's face with a white flowing beard and thought, okay, whatever, and fell back asleep. When I woke up in the morning, he was there again in full glory. It was Moses, standing tall with the staff in his hand raising his arms to the sea of turmoil, with dark skies, clouds rolling by, thunder and lightning crashing all around as the seas parted and I thought, yes! If there was a man alive today that could, through sheer will power and passion stand up, part the waves and say, "Yo, let my boys through", this would be the MF'r that could do it.

A world many of us will never see.
The life of John Joseph blew me away, particularly his early years. So many of us live in our comfortable bubbles and have no understanding of the reality for those less fortunate, particularly children. Putting it mildly - he had a very tough upbringing with almost no support. He was left to his own devices to survive on the streets. His matter-of-fact telling of his story is powerful.
I was initially fascinated by John Joseph's life but I gave the book up less then 3/4 way through. I could not listen any more, especially the tales of life in the punk world. So it was not a 5 star for me.

Amazing Book!
What an inspiration to listen to John's story. He is funny as hell and having him tell his story in his written voice and literal one makes it a great way to pass the time in traffic as you are commuting to work. There have been times when I've arrived to work and have sat in my car almost being late to clock in bc I had to find out what happened next before going inside the building. I highly recommend this listen!
