About this listen

The exciting end to The Poppy War trilogy, R. F. Kuang’s acclaimed, award-winning epic fantasy that combines the history of twentieth-century China with a gripping world of gods and monsters, to devastating, enthralling effect.

After saving her nation of Nikan from foreign invaders and battling the evil Empress Su Daji in a brutal civil war, Fang Runin was betrayed by allies and left for dead.

Despite her losses, Rin hasn’t given up on those for whom she has sacrificed so much—the people of the southern provinces and especially Tikany, the village that is her home. Returning to her roots, Rin meets difficult challenges—and unexpected opportunities. While her new allies in the Southern Coalition leadership are sly and untrustworthy, Rin quickly realizes that the real power in Nikan lies with the millions of common people who thirst for vengeance and revere her as a goddess of salvation.

Backed by the masses and her Southern Army, Rin will use every weapon to defeat the Dragon Republic, the colonizing Hesperians, and all who threaten the shamanic arts and their practitioners. As her power and influence grows, though, will she be strong enough to resist the Phoenix’s intoxicating voice urging her to burn the world and everything in it?

Featured Article: The Best Audiobook Series of All Time by Genre

What makes a good audiobook series? There are as many answers to this question as there are listeners. For some, it might be epic battles. For others, it might be ongoing romantic twists and tensions. For still others, it might be elongated character studies or an in-depth analysis of a particular time and place. But the universal element of a truly great series is that it sticks with you long after the last word. These are our favorites from every major genre.

amazing story

one of the best trilogies I've ever read. my only complaint was in the voice actor. I've read the previous two on hard copy. The actor struggles with cussing and how someone pushes through pain, and there's a lot of that in this book, so sometimes it sounds absurd. Otherwise, amazing writing. I was personally challenged to evaluate myself as leader, as person, and how I view my fellow man. When you look at its allegory to Chinese history it helps you to appreciate todays political context and be wary of the future.

Loved this series

I really enjoyed everything about this book, this series and the production. I loved and hated Rin but could empathize with her and feel the frustration of all the characters and the decisions that she made. By no means was it perfect and there were things I would have like to see or know more about. But overall I read enjoyed this series.

perfect endings

this r.f. kuang ended this trilogy the only way that could've made sense for Rin and her rebels. it was hardly ever easy to listen to but this has been a consistently good story

The ending

Bruh what’s with that ending , why so rushed, this gives Games of Thrones season 8 vibes. epilogue ain’t even necessary, might as well include that with the last chapter.

Not my favorite

I don't think I've ever wanted a main character to die so much. I appreciated the theater, the magic system, but I hated the main character.

Great ending to a great series

This was a really good read on its own merit and it lives up to the strength of the rest of the series. I won't give anything away, but WOW, what an ending. The Poppy War is one of the best series I've read in a long time.
