"Imagine you have the power to fly. Pretty awesome, right? Imagine you have the power to levitate or crush something the size of a Winnebago. Equally awesome. Now ... here's the catch: having the power means you are bonded irreversibly to a smartass, sociopathic alien life form. Not so awesome. So, what would you do with all of that power? The way I figured it, I had one of two options: Option #1) Use it to commit crime or Option #2) Use it to fight crime. My name is Gabe Garrison and I chose Option #2."

Who exactly is Danziger? He's a writer of letters for illiterate immigrants on Manhattan's Lower East Side - "a steadfast practitioner of concealing and forgetting" for his clients, and perhaps for himself: He hints at a much worldlier past. What and whoever he really is or has been, he has a seemingly boundless knowledge of the city and its denizens. And he knows much more than the mere identity of the floating corpse.

A dark 70s noir with supernatural overtones
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The ending of this book is satisfying yet so touching. It really is more fulfilling if you have heard the previous books but not necessary. This is a good noir story with supernatural overtones that feels dark and gritty. The narrator is great at characterization of the various characters and their accents. A wonderful mystery and detective story that is full of dark undertones. Great listen. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Best yet.
I really liked this installment. I understand this is the end of the trilogy but hope it's not the end of the series.
I still did not really gel with the narrator. He does such a good job technically. I just cannot seem to marry the voice of narrator with the Moses in my head. I was able to finally not let this mar my enjoyment of the novel. Such an interesting series. Love that New Orleans and all her mystic!!

Detective Byone Take a Journey to the Underside
The Cemetery Paintings takes Mose further to the dark side of New Orleans than ever. Everything is once again brought to a chilling crisis, with all the foes from the past looking to bring Detective Byone closer to death than ever. The interplay of all the player make this a chilling and yet very entertaining story.
Your regret will be realizing the is the last of the series.

Modern Age Classic Noir Detective Series
I started with the fourth book and it appears I'm working my way backwards.
I never liked the detective & PI shows from the 80s and earlier. I prefer the modern technology introduced with Law & Order, CSI, NCIS, etc.
But Mr Fleshman caught my eye and held my attention. The audiobooks are well recorded and Mr Patrella delivers the mystery and voodoo as if it's normal.
Because I had skipped around in the series, I suppose I confused myself at a point or two. Conceivable because it appears the MC has grown and the characters have a history. In this case, it doesn't subtract from the story; it makes it more enticing to start from the beginning and revisit the series.
The world building was created with ease and felt like, despite the darkness, a place one could plan a road trip.
I'll have to settle for keeping it in my imagination and in my library.

GREAT ADDITION, JOURNEY TO THE DARKSIDE!
This is my third in the series, and still not even a little bit disappointed! This one goes even deeper, and I loved it! It's chilling, suspenseful, intense, just about everything. I've really enjoyed all the books in the series thus far, and I really loved this one too. Great story, narration, all in all great job, and I'd recommend it. Dark/noir/mystery/suspense - bring it!

NOLA Mystery Noir
What did you love best about The Cemetery Paintings?
I have enjoyed the entire series because of the locales, the book moves quickly and kept my interest.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Byone is laid back,Nawlins style, that lets the mystery evolve.
What about Nicholas Patrella’s performance did you like?
I've enjoyed Nicholas throughout the Byone series. I am no expert on French but he seems to do a pretty good job on pronunciations. A good range of voices and good flow of the narrative.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It kept my interest, which is what I want an audio book to do
Any additional comments?
I have listened to the entire series, in my opinion they can be read on a stand alone basis. Though for a good understanding, you may want to listen to the entire series. I feel the Cemetary Paintings is near the best in the series.

A good story
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I rather liked the last book in the series (the first for me) and figured I'd give book 3 a try. I liked this one as much, if not more, than the previous book. It is just as engaging and the story is interesting. The narration continues to be good. All in all, I enjoyed it.

Should have read Volume 1 first.
What does Nicholas Patrella bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The atmosphere and the pronunciation of the names.
Any additional comments?
I had trouble following the story at times. It seemed to move slow, but I still had to rewind and listen again to get things straight. Just came back from New Orleans so that was kind of a nice tie in for me.

The Voodoo Detective
What did you love best about The Cemetery Paintings?
I love the atmospheric writing of Mr. Fleshman, describing Paris & New Orleans as only someone who loves those cities could do.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Armand Fonteneau is my favorite character. He has an exaggerated personality & loves life.
Which character – as performed by Nicholas Patrella – was your favorite?
Moses.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Voodoo Detective.
Any additional comments?
The scenes set in Paris were very reminiscent of one of my favorite movies, "Diva". I am sure that Mr. Fleshman has seen this movie. I love the descriptions of New Orleans, especially the scenes in Lafayette Cemetery. Great characters, great story & wonderful scenes. I hope that Mr. Fleshman continues to write more books about Moses Byone & his friends because I love these books!
