Publisher's summary
A deadly coincidence of timing. Our sun gives life. And takes it away. Nature has no mercy.
A group of eighth grade girls are out on a backcountry wilderness camping trip, led by a wilderness expert and a group of chaperones. Along the return trip to civilization they discover they’ve been trapped in the wilderness by a life-altering event. One that proves to be deadly.
After a few days their predicament becomes apparent. No rescue is coming, despite savage dangers. The campers must stick together and fend for themselves.
Meanwhile, an even more sinister threat awaits them should they survive. Beyond their patch of wilderness, the whole world is changing, and not for the better. One chaperone steps up to lead the children and hundreds of refugees who join them on a journey into an unknown future. The fate of the region’s remnant of humankind hangs in the balance, tipping toward death.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.
