About this listen

WARNING: Strong language and violence.

Henry is a family man and life-long prepper, who lives in a historic neighborhood in a small Appalachian town. One evening he receives the call that he had always hoped would never come. Now he has less than 20 hours before the world comes to a stand-still and society begins to break down. But, getting the supplies and gathering his friends will be the easy part, once the world stops, the difficulties actually began. Henry must walk the line of protecting his family and friends, while not drawing unwanted attention from his neighbors and what remains of the local government. The arrival of long lost family looking for help, may be the end of him... That is, if his nightmares don't drive him crazy first.

Author clover shares much of the ideology of other riders of apocalypse scenarios. For example, he assumes that all public servant are politically corrupt parasites. However, in this apocalypse the whole civilization does not go nuts raping, plundering, etc; only a few bad guys who are dealt with by people’s Democratic revolutionary justice (bullet in the head). Radio from the outside world is brought in at the end. Author may end up in prison for having mentioned Alex Jones Infowars!

I rate the performance 2 stars because it is a robot. Book is definitely worth a credit. More books in this series will follow.

Good story overall. Performance is as expected with AI. Different twist on the survival scenario.

AI just isn’t there yet. Had some funny results though. Calories instead of caliber for example.

The narration

the story itself is phenomenal but you'd think by 2025 the virtual voice reading would be better than a 2nd grade level

the errors in the text to talk or whatever is awful.

I have read a lot of books like this and there are more that I dislike than like. I really hate the ones where the villain's are weaved throughout the entire story and although they are usually druggies or gang bangers, they are harder to kill than cockroaches and seem to have 9 lives, even though they have no skills at all. I like this one because problems are solved right away, or at least quickly, which is how 90% of how life is. If anything, the problems may be solved a bit to quickly in some situations. Most of the other books, as soon as I see the villain's name, I skip that entire section. I already know what is going to happen in the end (they will die) and all the rest is just fluff, usually unbelievable and a waste of my time. I wish more books were more like this, with people dealing with life as it comes. There would be enough situation going on everyday in a disaster situation that you don't need a boogey man weaved throughout the story.

One of the better books

I listen to books while doing chores. this is one of those that has you keep working so you can keep listening. It's fast moving, very descriptive and keeps your attention. I'm about to start the second one now and I'm looking forward to finding more out as the characters and story unfold.

Great listen.

The book jumped from one disjointed story to another without making sense. The computer generated narration was also poorly done. Better luck next time.

Love this story. Wish it wasn’t the virtual voice
Just to add the character but 10/10 on the story. About to listen to the second one now and will be waiting on the 3rd! Heard about you through the authors investigate earth podcast interview.

Fantastic

I've listened to a lot books in the areas of post apocalyptic, end days, zombie, prepper, etc.
This is one I didn't want to end. It was good even with the virtual voice. Easily good enough to be professionally read. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. If your sensitive about politics, then don't read it or understand its a book and suck it up.
