Publisher's summary

In a first-time collaboration, "Queen of Suspense" Mary Higgins Clark partners with best-selling author Alafair Burke to deliver a brand new suspense series about a television program featuring cold case murders.

Television producer Laurie Moran is delighted when the pilot for her reality drama, Under Suspicion, is a success. Even more, the program - a cold case series that revisits unsolved crimes by recreating them with those affected - is off to a fantastic start when it helps solve an infamous murder in the very first episode.

Now Laurie has the ideal case to feature in the next episode of Under Suspicion: the Cinderella Murder. When Susan Dempsey, a beautiful and multi-talented UCLA student, was found dead, her murder raised numerous questions. Why was her car parked miles from her body? Had she ever shown up for the acting audition she was due to attend at the home of an up-and-coming director? Why does Susan’s boyfriend want to avoid questions about their relationship? Why was Susan so concerned about her roommate’s infatuation with a new-age religious sect? Was she close to her computer science professor because of her technological brilliance, or something more? And why was Susan missing one of her shoes when her body was discovered?

With the help of lawyer and Under Suspicion host Alex Buckley, Laurie knows the case will attract great ratings, especially when the former suspects include Hollywood’s elite and tech billionaires. The suspense and drama are perfect for the silver screen - but is Cinderella’s murderer ready for a close-up?

Together Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke deliver an exciting publishing event: the start of a thrilling new series guaranteed to keep you guessing until the last suspenseful page.

Captive the Entire Time but....

Overall, would i recommend it; yes. Do i regret paying for it; no.
I really enjoyed this book but it wasn't anything spectacular which is why i couldn't give it a 5 star rating. Don't get me wrong, i was addicted and engaged the entire time and it had some twists and turns and wasn't too predictive but about half way through i was able to figure out who it was but I was certain because there would be little bits of new information that made me wonder.

Good Plot Predictable Characters

I expected more from the "Queen of Suspense" Carol Higgins Clark and "best sellng author" Alafair Burke. While I didn't guess the who did the crime(s). I did guess which character would be in mortal peril as the book drew to a close.

The plot was good and the pace was brisk. However, the characters were predictable and not very interesting to me. This is the first book of what may become a series. If there are more books, and the characters become more interesting, I might consider reading another book in this series.

Julie Kramer writes mysteries about a TV reporter. I find her books much more satisfying than "The Cinderella Murders."

Brilliant!

There are very few books that I’ve listened to and been so engrossed that I wanted to stay home from work just to finish it. This is one of them! Excellent characters, a plot that keeps moving, and great narrator.

A great story.

I have very little time to read. So being able to listen while I'm working is awesome.

Spoiler Alert!

I loved this. The narrator was absolutely terrific, and in my Audible travels I’ve come to realize that can make or break a listening experience.
The story was good, if a little formulaic, especially at the end. Wait, no, don’t go into that dark garage alone! Oh no, *gasp* the bad guy carjacks the heroine! Kind of a cop-out, really.
But the rest of the book and the narrator really make up for the small storytelling stumble. I’d recommend for sure, and am looking forward to the next in this series.

Entertaining from the beginning

This story had me hooked from the beginning. From the twists of who did it to delving into the suspicious activity of a church.
The narrator is excellent.
