Publisher's summary

A street urchin with a mysterious gift. A nightmarish enemy hunting over the gaslit streets of London. Dark Magic Rising.

It’s a cold winter’s night when Jake Shillingsworth, serving boy at The Tattered Crow, finds himself running a task for his monstrous master Silas Grumble. Jake’s errands are never fun, but this one is worse than most. This one’s for a witch….

When Jake’s best friend is snatched by a terrifying creature he’s forced to seek help from Professor Thistlequick; an eccentric man known as the clockwork magician.

Soon Jake finds himself in strange shadowed streets and soaring over clouds in a race to stop the gravest of threats.

London Bridge is falling down, and so will the entire city if Jake and his unlikely companions fail.

The Clockwork Magician is what would happen if Sherlock Holmes met Doctor Who with a Dickensian cast of grotesques, nail biting adventures, and shadowy heroines who aren’t what they seem.

Bumbling heroes

With award winning level narating by Hannibal Hills and a steam punk sci-fi story written by Eldridge Black we get to meet Jake shillingsworth, Young orphan who is about to have the adventure of a lifetime. His friends get kidnapped by a flying machine and he is shot. Something his master silas grumbling thinks Jake made happen to get attention and to shirk his duties at the inn where he works. Thankfully for Jake and his friends he made the acquaintance of a scientist at the local fair and despite denying him help the first time he ask Professor Bissell quick persistence he soon changes his mind and not only takes Jake from the end tries to help him get his two best friends Wendy and Adam back. Unfortunately for Jake his two friends being kidnapped it’s not the only problem behaviors he has a warlord after him not to mention once this master finds his left he wants him back and not because he misses him. This book is not only intelligently written it is LOL funny with great dialogue short chapters and a swift moving plot. This really is a great book and a five star listen. I would listen to Hannibal Hill read the dictionary so to have them reading such an interesting story with awesome narration really makes for a great day of reading or listening. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Steampunk Dickens

Listening to The Clockwork Magician made remember how much I enjoy steampunk and realize it had been much too long since I'd read a steampunk story. Jake Shillingsworth is a great character and his underdog adventure was thrilling, with my favorite part being where he finally stands up for himself. Great story of friendship and overcoming adversity,. Considering how the book ends I am really hoping we get a sequel at some point. Hannibal Hills has such a unique voice and it was absolutely perfect for this story.

The Clockwork Magician

A fun read!A tavern boy is carried along on a tide of intrigue and fantasy to squelch a demon,a bad demon,as opposed to a good one.Hannibal Hills is the only person you want to narrate such a fanciful book.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Steampunk dark fantasy

If Inspector Magic Gadget had tea with Neil Gaiman I'd imagine they'd be talking about this book with a twisted grin and a scone.

A fun story well told.

Eldritch Black knows how to turn a phrase and tell an engaging, exciting story. His use of adjectives and scene setting draws the reader or listener in, to the point where one can feel the vibe, smell the odors, see the colors, and imagine the characters. Hannibal Hills narration is splendid! How does he keep track of all the different voices!?! More! Bravo!

Imaginative Story in an Alternate London

This is centered around the life of a Tavern boy who is indebted to a Vuger master. His adventure, many not of his own making, are the basis of this book. He has mismatched eyes that let him see what most other people can not, which gets him called a lier.
Narrator does a fantastic job with the various characters voices as well as the entire storyline.
