Not interested in the heroine

I don’t like the heroine’s activities (gambling & high fashion) and so it was hard for me to relate and be interested. There are many other Heyer books I enjoy better. But a mediocre Georgette Heyer is still better than most books and there are quite a few fun parts.

Just wonderful!

I felt I was reading early Jane Austin. It was also a wonderful and positive surprise to have a very intelligent heroine with a disability, clearly aged 17, and watch her grow. The other characters were also well developed and flawed without anachronistic psychologizing as to motives, etc. I shall be reading more by Georgette Heyer!

Yeah! They fixed it!

Its another great Georgette Heyer story! I am sooo glad that I kept looking for this, so that I got it almost as soon as it was fixed. (... and it only took them almost 5 months ...)

It is fun, light, and I often just laughed out loud. (Just another crazy lady laughing to herself at the mall...) I enjoyed Caroline Hunt's characterizations, too. If you like Georgette Heyer, you'll love this one!

Disappointing product

Georgette Heyer writes amusing stories--this one being one of her more entertaining ones. But unfortunately, the product is sloppy, unprofessional and incomplete! The bass/treble balance is uneven, making the audio quality rather muffled. The volume dynamics fluctuate too much whenever the narrator took a break. But the must unforgivable criticism is that the book abruptly cuts off before the end. Having come to value Audible.com's reliability of product, I am sorely disappointed in this one.

Great but for one voice

I really liked the story. There are some very humorous scenes that made me laugh. And the voices were all very good except for the one of the heroine which didn't sound very feminine but gruff - somehow not the voice of a girl who likes to dress up and go to parties. It seemed to fit even less toward the end of the story where the reader should get the impression of her growing up. It was almost enough for me to return the book - but I didn't because of the story itself.

Caroline Hunts narration is wonderful

Love Heyer books and this one is an entertaining romp with hilarious characters. Hunts narration took it to another level.

Adorable.

Such a sweet story and the heroine most precious. The cast of characters so well written together. Only Heyer could accomplish this. One of her best. Loved it.

Not Heyer's Best

I've read virtually all of Georgette Heyer's Regency romances, and they're all good fun and well written. However, this one is really not one of my favourites. The situations are even more contrived than usual, and less believably portrayed, and the heroine vacillates between total simpering miss and heroic. The book _almost_ redeems itself during a scene late in the book where Horatia is in Lord Lethbridge's house, but other than the one scene, really doesn't have all that many high spots.

Caroline Hunt's narration is perfectly adequate, but she'll never be my favourite. I won't avoid a book she narrates, but I also won't go out of my way to look for one, either.

Uncomfortable Read

Georgette Heyer is always wonderful to listen to. My issue was with the reading. Horatia is read like an 8-year old girl, which makes the already dodgy age gap feel even more uncomfortable.

Very Humorous Antics

I enjoyed this improbable story of a stuttering seventeen year old girl married to a 35 year old earl. This was a Georgian England version of I Love Lucy with a villain and a sniveling, trouble-making cousin thrown in for good measure. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book.
