Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Penelope Sky pens another dark and suspenseful masterpiece.

I see his wicked smile in the theatre. I see it in the apartment across from mine.

I see it everywhere.

Before I can run, I'm taken.

And when I wake up...I'm in the middle of nowhere.

The man who's taken me claims to be a demon.

And claims I'm his angel.

What happens when he finds out I don't have wings?

I'm not the only prisoner in this forest. There's a little girl too. Her name is Claire. She's beautiful, happy, wonderful. It's my responsibility to protect her--and I will give my life to accomplish that.

She says her father will save us both.

She says he's powerful, formidable, that he'll burn this entire forest to get to her.

I hope she's right.

Claire is unharmed throughout this story. There is no violence against children of any kind.

Love this book!

I have been a fan of Penelope's work since her FB post of Mrs. Grey. I love all of her work. I have fallen in love with all of the characters in this fantasy world that she has created.. I love how she intertwines each book with the next series. I will have to say that this book, the Cult has to be one of the best ones so far. I love the characters and storyline and can wait to read the next book!

I'm intrigued!

While this wasn't quite what I expected, no romance, I still enjoyed it. I think the characters were great given the quick pace of the story. At the end we were really JUST getting into things, and dang that cliffy! This was a thriller, but I think book two might have more of the romance and I'm excited to read it!

Good Story

I wasn't enamored with this book and probably won't finish the duet. I got to the point where I wanted to throw my device against a wall if the fmc referred the cult people as "crazy" one more time. We get it! They're not sane! The book was ok but it didn't hold my interest. I don't take off stars for that because I'm sure other people probably love this type of writing.

The female narrator was good. She did fairly well with the kid's voice but it was whiny. It sounded like she was about to tattle every time she spoke.

The male narrator sounded flat and pretentious. If you ever watched the TV show "MASH" and saw Major Winchester, that's what he sounded like. it was a total turn off. I could not picture the H as attractive when he sounded like he did.

And I'm guessing they're all French so why does only one character have a French accent? Bartholomew sounded French. But if they're all French, shouldn't he have the same accent as the rest of them.

NEVER SHOULD’VE STARTED IT.. NEED BOOK 2 STAT

I tried to resist starting this I truly did because I love Penelope Sky’s suspenseful world-building and her twisted dark stories.. but I hate her inevitable cliffhangers.. hence my initial resistance to start this Duet. However, I have absolutely no willpower when it comes to the lure of her addictive books.. but whoa, bad move on my part because I was instantly hooked and now I’m desperate for Book 2.

Ballet dancer Constance is stalked, drugged and taken to a frightening world where twelve psychopaths act like Demons and kidnap women who they think are their own personal Angels able to grant them redemption, salvation and ascension. It’s a very dark, tense and mysterious settlement deep in the forests of France where the rest of the zombie like masked Malevolent lurk. It’s a gritty brutal ride for Constance as she tries to stay alive during scary encounters with her Demon Forneus, constant threats and danger to the other ’angels’ and bloody action.. but her strength, love for a sweet seven year old girl and her selfless bravery gets her far. It gets her saved by anti-hero Benton, the ex co-leader of the villainous underground gang called the Chasseurs, when he barters to get his beloved little daughter and her Mom back from the evil clutches of the Cult and Constance is rescued along with them. But Forneus (Head Psychopath) wants his Angel back.. just as Constance and Benton find common ground and get ‘up close and personal’ with each other. So, there’s a war of bad vs evil coming and I feel it’s going to be brutal, bloody and deliciously wicked.

Worth a credit? Yes, addictive edge-of-your-seat tense drama, chills and suspense around every corner, impressive and creative storytelling and the dual POV narration was great. However, there really isn’t any romance yet.. and this is book 1 of a Duet.

Definitely different, but I loved it!

This is not the usual type of book I'd listen to, but figured I'd give it a chance. I can't wait for the second book to come out.

Lots of issues here

The performance is poor but more to the fault of the writing than the actors, excessive child dialogue and a severely slow talking demon are not enjoyable. the lack of French accents takes a lot away from the experience, it removes all atmosphere having it sound so American. As for the story, it was underwhelming on the dark/horror/thriller side and absolutely zero spice or romance. The lead man couldn’t be more dull and unappealing. It reads YA and with so many forced metaphors they start to sound computer generated. This is not a 5-star book I have no idea why it’s rated so highly?!
