About this listen

Verity Fitzroy and the Ministry Seven have the run of London, and that is the way they like it.

While she loses herself in machines and adventures, and the work they get from the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences, why her parents were killed remains a mystery she can't leave alone.

When an archaeologist from the British Museum is kidnapped, and the only clue leads to an academy for young engineers, the Ministry sends the Seven in to investigate. What they will find within the walls of the country house will lead Verity and the Seven down a dangerous path.

Kids are fun - so is Steam Punk

Ministry seven are the children we met with agents Wellington Books and Eliza Braun of Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences. This story is similar to the Harry Potter without the magic. Some of the kids go to a school for the gifted to discover what is going on. There are a few story lines. Verity is trying to follow a lead to find her parents. The Ministry is trying to find the Silver Pharaoh, an exhibit that has been missing for a while, and of course the Illuminati makes an appearance. At the school, we meet some interesting characters and of course, there are some mean girls.

There are the unusual Steam Punk gadgets and the kids are hysterical. What you will enjoy is how the kids get into and out of trouble. Read it this is fun!

I love the Ministry!

I love the way that the storytelling is so well blended with the Steampunk world. I love the way Pip narrates the story. She know just when to make an emphasis to further the story. Now I'm off to get the others books in the series.

Brilliant story, but...

I love the stories that this author duo writes! Plot, pacing, characters, dialog, and pathos are all spot-on! I just wish that they wouldn't narrate their own stories. Ms. Ballantine by herself (themself?) is not bad overall, but doesn't stay in the accent. One of the street urchins (Ministry Seven) was supposedly from the East End, but from listening to Ballantine, you would think that the kid was from Down Under (Australia). All of the adult women characters had the same voice.

However, many of the rest of the characters had correct accents and Ballantine's vocal characterizations made the rest of the characters solidly identifiable. I just wish that the authors had been able to stick with the fellow who narrated the first couple of Ministry of Peculiar Occurances books, but perhaps he is dead? Dunno, I haven't researched him.
