Publisher's summary

From America's most popular Western storytellers comes another adventure in the treacherous life of Breckenridge Wallace, a man as wild as the frontier he tries to conquer.

HE FOLLOWED THE CALL OF THE WILD. KILLERS FOLLOWED HIM.

Exiled from the Smoky Mountains for gunning down a man in self-defense, Breck Wallace tries to make a new home in St. Louis, even tries his hand at romance, but some men are too wild to settle down. Breck is soon back on the trail, where a vicious gang of trappers, after his goods, picks up his scent and begins to dog his every step, until Breck's only choice is to bed down for the winter with a tribe of friendly Indians. In the frigid, brutal cold of a Rocky Mountain winter, he hopes to find peace...but death is not done with Breck Wallace. When the trappers ambush the Indians and leave Breck for dead, the frontiersman must ride deeper into the mountains than he has ever gone before. Peace be damned. The blood will flow until vengeance is his alone....

Simple predictable plot

The narrator was very entertaining almost a ventriloquist! Third book in The Frontiersman. Breckenridge and Morgan trap, make friends with the Crow and killed many enemies. Of course Breckenridge did most of the killing.

best series

I have been addicted to this series! But in this book the narrator keeps mixing up Running cells name. It often sounds like he's saying running owl instead at times and mixes up the character's voices into the wrong spots but it reallyis hard to catch. Regardless he does an amazing job

Better than the first

Author did a good job of building on the previous story. Well balanced on the drama.
My only negatives would be that his writing seems a little choppy at times and a little corny in others, but considering it is fiction, I guess I may be just being a little too critical.
Overall, I enjoyed it as well as the narrator, who in my opinion can destroy any good book.

I love this series

The Darkest Winter is a great addition in this series. I love reading the adventures of Breckenridge Wallace and his love interest Dawn Wind. I look forward to listening to the next installment in this series. The author and narrator have a way of keeping me interested in the story. In my opinion it's a great listen.

I'm in love with Brek

What an amazing guy. What an amazing story! I have read/listened to them all and they just keep getting better. It will be a very sad day for me when there are no more accounts of his and Morgans adventures to look forward to. Can't wait for the next!

Just listen to the whole series!

If I had time to write a good long review I would. Since I don't, the only way to express my love and enjoyment is by saying listen to all of these books! You will thank me later.

Ending was awful

All that way for a let down. Ending was a downer. Usually enjoy the stories from this author.
