What made the experience of listening to The Dead Yard the most enjoyable?

Great Reader

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Sadly, although I am a big fan of this writer, I was disappointed in the climax. I was not able to suspend my disbelief.

What does Gerard Doyle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Just love his inflection and his command of a broad range of voices and dialects.

Any additional comments?

Although I had some difficulties accepting the story line, I will continue reading McKinty's novels. They are quite entertaining.

This is the second of three books McKinty has published featuring Michael Forsythe. It is, like the first (Dead I May Well Be) a real thriller. It is overflowing with Michael's exploits that result in horrific blood and gore, but the characters, the settings and of course, Michael's narration makes it like listening to poetry. Believe me, once you are into these novels, you'll want to read all three!

I bought this book when it was on sale and I was pleasantly surprised. The story was a bit predictable but the characters were vibrant and the narration was excellent. Moving back and forth between Irish and British accents seamlessly the narrator really made the story come alive. I had not listened to the previous title and will now go back and do so considering how much I liked this one.

Everyone has a flaw and Sean’s shows up when there’s a pretty wee lass in the picture.

It’s a very good plot but the murder descriptions could have been toned down. Kudos to the reader.

the second book of the (as it stands now) trilogy of Michael Forsythe is not the slow, parabolic arc that usually some stories fall victim to; With the same McGinty hyperbole, packed with similes and metaphors, the book is compelling in its simplicity.

A well known storyline does not dampen the gripping nature, and the narrative doesn't stop. a great read and listen, Gerard Doyle knocks it out of the park, once again

Would you listen to The Dead Yard again? Why?

I expect I will listen again. The pace of the action is great, and the twists are so unexpected that I spent most of the first listen just following the thread. McKinty has created a couple of really great characters, and this merits a second listen so I can pay closer attention to them.

What did you like best about this story?

I found the main character, Michael Forsyth, very interesting. The author took more time drawing Michael in a convincing way than most mystery/thriller heroes. Michael is full of contradictions, but his actions are completely believable. There was never a time I said "Oh, come on." Everything that happened, everything he did, was exactly what a real Michael would have done.

Which character – as performed by Gerard Doyle – was your favorite?

Doyle has a bunch of good characters. His voice is very versatile. Michael is so much the dominant character of the novel that I have to choose him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to take breaks. I found myself listening into the night.

Good story and fun to listen to, but (spoiler) a bit far fetched to single handedly take out everyone. Might be interesting to spare a soul now and then. First book in the series was fantastic, so I had higher expectations for the sequel. I’ll move on to the 3rd…
