Publisher's summary
After nine years of marriage, Toyin M. Falusi, MD, a specialist in infectious diseases, found herself divorced and raising two young children. It was a trying, stressful time, but rather than accept the hackneyed stereotype of the miserable and overwrought single mom, Falusi chose to embrace her new existence.
Twelve years later, she’s still leading a happy, successful life. In The Decade After: Surviving Thriving After Divorce, she shares what she’s learned along the way.
While this is not a self-help manual, much inside will resonate with recently divorced women. It is also not exactly an advice book, although Falusi does offer tips and tactics to help you adjust to life after marriage breakdown and separation. Rather, this is an informal, often funny conversation, with Falusi expounding on such topics as raising well-adjusted kids, working with - not against - your ex-spouse, building a support system, and taking care of yourself.
Life does not end after divorce, nor does it have to plunge into stress, loneliness, and despair. Take it from Falusi - 12 years later, she’s still going strong. While she remains willing to entertain the possibility of a new serious relationship, she’s quite happy as she is - self-reliant, successful, and fulfilled!
#getbetternotbitter #thrivingafterdivorce This book empowers women of all ages to celebrate their awesomeness and to grow daily.

Story
Face it, your attitudes about marriage and the path to marriage are probably wrong. Some you've inherited, some you've simply bought - hook, line, and sinker - and some you've made up yourself. They have translated into bad action (or no action) in dating and relationships. But it's not too late; you can break the cycle of dating dysfunction and learn to honor marriage, marry well, and live intentionally while you wait.

Story
Children today live in an unpredictable, disruptive, and often violent world. Many of them live in two different homes with different sets of expectations. They face bullying at school and online. They hear news of school shootings, and racially or religiously motivated violence. They may have lost a friend or a loved one. As parents, the impulse to protect our children is strong, but that very protection can end up handicapping them for life. Rather than seek to save them from the hard things, parents must teach their kids how to cope with and rise above their problems.

Story
We have a tendency today to over-parent, micromanage, and underappreciate our adolescents. Dr. John Duffy's The Available Parent is a revolutionary approach to taking care of teens and tweens. The available parent of a teenager is open to discussion, offering advice and solutions but not insisting on them. He allows his child to make some mistakes, setting limits, primarily where health and safety are concerned. He never lectures - he is available but not controlling. He is neither cruel nor dismissive, ever....

Story
What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

A Must-Read for Anyone in Transition
Dr. Falusi is generous and unguarded as she shares with readers how she navigated through the aftermath of her divorce while maintaining a vision of raising successful and balanced daughters. The book is well written, edited and flows compassionately as she presents stories that anyone can relate to and apply to their own life’s journey. Highlighting biblical scriptures and principles of habit change as foundations for practical application, the author does a wonderful job of offering readers wisdom they can readily put into practice. I enjoyed the encouragement and grace I gleaned from this book so much, I have already forwarded the audiobook to two other friends. I truly believe anyone going through a time of struggle or transition could benefit from reading this gem of a book.

Enjoyed this thoroughly
I don't usually write reviews but this one deserves a great one. I listened to the sample and resonated with Dr. Falusi's story and experience right away. Throughout the book she gave excellent advice and little tidbits that I had to pause and write down. This will undoubtedly help me on my journey.
