About this listen

Lord Vandeimen returns home from Waterloo to ruined estates, his family all dead. His attempts to recreate something of his heritage leave him deep in debt, and he is ready to commit suicide when a woman bursts into his room with an extraordinary proposal. Mrs. Maria Celestin, widow of a wealthy foreign merchant, will pay him a small fortune to pretend to be her betrothed husband for six weeks. Van cannot refuse, but he is wary of this outrageous good fortune. He is also intent on getting into the widow's bed. He doesn't expect to be dragged back into life, and into love, or into a battle to win the woman who bought him.

Dont’t like Susan Duerden

It’s probably a waste to write this review about a novella, but I cannot stand this narrator. I put up with her for good books or good authors. She reads everything with a pulsing over-exaggeration and yet still manages to miss the real emotions in books, Also, how much research does it take to correctly pronounce Maria in the correct pronunciation of the Regency? It’s pronounced Mariah! (Mar-I-ah, not Mar-ee-ah). That said, this is a great story with characters whose development I found believable. And a satisfying ending.

Great Company if Rogues Novella

This is a short story about one of the theee Georges. He is caught in the act of trying to commit sucide
. If you have read all the books of a company of Rogues you have to read this to see what happens to one of the almost Rogues.

Short but steamy

Absolutely loved this novella and everything about this series so far. I will admit I balked at the idea of how much 3 hours of reading costs but I have no complaints. I am not a literary snob, I am not someone who thinks too much of herself or the pleasures of reading. I am just a girl who loves some good fictional drama to drive away the worry’s of the 9-5.
That being said this book is phenomenal. Short story about a character we have yet to meet but so easy to fall in love with. Loved hearing the drama and the tale of love.
Not kidding when I say steamy. Homegirl is a heroine after my heart with the naughty secrets she can’t keep secret.
This was a great beginning to the 3 Georges bit of the rouges and now on book (what is it, 10?) of St. Raven, I feel the quirky and mystical aspect of the George’s and the prior to this (Dangerous Joy) have me quaking with absolute delight.

Susan Duarden is a TREASURE. I love her voice acting and reading. She does amazing and truly engages me in the story. I found Jo Beverly because I followed Ms. Duarden from Eloisa to Jo.
I STAN the company or rouges and am truly delighted. Thank you.

Romance for dummies…I am getting my $9 back. Don’t purchase this 2 hour snore fest!!!

This novela (it is barely longer than an essay and shorter than the majority of my bachelor’s degree papers, and thus should not be sold for a credit or $8.99) is simple in plurality. The writing is at an average 5th grade level, with a 3rd grade vocabulary: it is written by a simpleton for the simple minded. The plot has little of interest occur; as in the novela is missing key features that make fiction in the least interesting…it is a simple, straight forward telling of what occurred over a few weeks in its simplest form outside of a timeline diagram.

Any creative writing course will address the critical feature needed to make writing interesting, which is conflict. While the woman is a widow who believes she is barren, but might not be, this isn’t enough of a story to make the book interesting. When it might start to become interesting, as there is a story behind the subterfuge employed to convince the widow she is incapable of conception and it is indeed her fault (without any other reason being considered or researched), the book ends.

The hole was dug, the layers of gravel and sand laid, the machine brought in to compress the foundation, and while some critical steps to laying a foundation were left out, they could have been worked around, as the architect of any good story will do in their works. The author chose to not build upon the foundation, and Amazon/Audible is charging for the introduction to a book.

If only 0 stars was an option!!!!

Not worth the $8

Super short, and very little happens. I feel fleeced. Not worth the $8. The rest of the series is pretty good, though.

Good story almost ruined by narration

I almost gave up on this one. The narrator employs a strange, repetitive cadence on almost every sentence, totally unconnected to what’s being expressed. I’m glad I finished listening because I did enjoy the story.
