About this listen

Brains, guts, and ruthless ambition should be enough for a woman to come out on top in any fight. Except when the battle is over love, all bets are off. Cain Casey was groomed from birth to take the reins of the Casey family enterprises, which just happens to be one of the major crime organizations in New Orleans. Surviving by never turning away from a fight and knowing how to win at all costs, Cain is as careful with her heart as she is with her business - until she meets Emma Verde. The farm girl from Wisconsin puts a hit out on Cain's heart and leads her down a dangerous road filled with great joy and devastating sorrow. The Devil Inside is the story of unexpected passion, a shattering betrayal, and the challenge of love put to the test. First in the Cain Casey Saga.

Great Story- poor narration

What did you love best about The Devil Inside?

The story line about a female gangster and her love for her family

What did you like best about this story?

It keeps you interested

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Trying to do voices which sounded like adolescents. A FBI agent needs to sound like she is older than 12 years old.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Cain saved Emma from being shot even though they were estranged

Any additional comments?

I would like to see the rest of this series in audible but with a different narrator

Narration deserves improvement

The narrator is inconsistent with pausing and you can’t tell where a character is speaking and story narration.

Ugh the narration

The story was refreshing in the sense it wasn't the typical lesbian romance arc of misunderstandings and then a happy ending. Think of a lesbian Irish godfather theme in New Orleans with a child custody twist. There are some really cheesy moments where you'll roll your eyes but it's a good story and worth the listen.

The narration was a huge turn off. Unfortunately the voice and the story did not connect. It was too high pitched and some of the characters came off childlike. In my opinion this probably caused a lot of folks to turn off listening, which is sad for the author.

Wonderful story

I loved this story!! The writing is off the chain — narration? Not so good! The story was soo good I just could ‘t leave! Will get part two as I want to know what happens to Casey and Emma — and how Casey will kick butt! Wonderful story!!

Awesome story!!

I love this book and have thought after reading it numerous times that it should been made into an audiobook. Now that it is it makes the story that much better. I love the series and wish there was another so we would know what the next Casey baby is.

A different narrator needed

I read this book at least three times and the series is definitely one of my favorite. I am having a hard time listening to this audio. With such strong characters, a different narrator would have made the audio a much better listen. Cain should have had a stronger voice, not masculine, but stronger and maybe a little deeper, more bold. I will probably finish the book (maybe, maybe not) and end up getting the entire series since it is my favorite, but a different narrator would have made a world of a difference. We all have our favorite narrators and always hope our favorite books are narrated by them because they know how to bring the book to life.

A Hit

I love Ali Vali. I think she does a great job and I enjoy the action she has in her books and the main characters. Can we get a different narrator though, please! I just think these books and series can be a hit with someone else narrating it. This is why it lacked a 5 star. But, I loved the book and can't wait till the others come out on audio!

Good Story, Good Relationship

Great story. The characters are great and I am interested to see what happens next for them. I love the Honor Series by Radclyffe and was looking for something with a similar story line and butch/femme relationship. This is definitely on the right track. The narrator was alright. I felt like she could have done better and expressing Cain's voice given how hard and butch she was described. The narrator made Cain sound like she was hurt all the time, this low raspy voice. I didn't get to feel the strong confident, edgy type personality that I thought the author was trying to describe. I read and reviews that the book is a better read than on audible which I have to agree with.

I wish Abby Craden would consider re-recording these. I would buy without hesitation just because I know she would do a better job at expressing Cain's character.
