Publisher's summary

Harriet “Harry” and Desi Basantes spent 16 years waiting to find each other again, and now they’re weeks away from a wedding and the baby they’ve planned since high school.

Desi’s sister Rachel Thompson is happy for them. Rachel might wish for her own grand love affair, but her attraction to Harry’s ex Serena Ladding doesn’t exactly spell happily ever after. She’s pretty sure Serena is still in love with Harry and isn’t prepared to take the chance on a broken heart. So then why can’t she stop thinking about Serena?

Angola State Penitentiary is one of the toughest prisons in the country, but when Desi’s ex-husband Byron Simoneaux sees the chance to run, he does with only one goal in mind: to finish what he started and kill Desi, Rachel, and Harry, the women who stole his life.

Can you really outrun your past? For Harry, Desi, and Rachel, it’s a matter of life or death.

Love this follow up book!!

Fantastic book! I loved the second book! Would even love it if there was a third! But the story wrapped up nicely!

It was okay...

Good lord... I will be brutally honest here. I truthfully disliked Rachel up until near the end. Her personalty was just repelling and I really found her personalty abrasive, nothing like in the first book. It partially could have been the narration, but man, she grated my nerves. And speaking of nerves, the ratio between Desi and Rachel was too much. Rachel felt like a side thought, really. Not the best, but still worth a listen.

Edit: Went back to the first book and yes, I think Lori Prince should have continued the series.

Still worth listening

I liked this book 2, it would have been great had Lori Prince narrated this book too! Don’t get me wrong, I like Lula Larkin and thought she was great in Calumet, however this would have been much better with the original narrator. The character of Rachel was annoying because of how she portrayed her, I mean she sounded like she was always fighting. It was just annoying, and I liked Rachel in the 1st book! The only reason I continued listening was out of respect of Ms Vali because she is my favorite Lesbian author! So I will probably just read the book to enjoy the story.

Excellent Story.

absolutely beautiful story. All Vali did again I love her books. great story line not just about sex, but a book you can Really get into, but I love the sex too. I love both Lori Prince for the first book (One more Chance) Lula Larkin for this book. only voice that okay to me was Serena voice I felt it could be a little more stronger like in the first book, but I love both books and both narrators. I can't wait for more books from Ali Vali with the Lori Prince and Lula larkin separate books of course. Great stories again.

The follow up book was good, but the narration…

This was a good follow up to the first book. I enjoyed that it focused on Serena and Rachel more because I did wonder if they ended up together after the first book.
However, my pet peeve is when they use a completely different narrator for a follow up book. Lulu Larkin was okay, but sometime I could not tell which character was speaking because there was no differentiation in her voice, except for Butch. I feel that is common with this narrator as I’ve heard her in other books of other authors I enjoy. It makes it difficult to enjoy the story. I could just have a major bias for Lori Prince, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if she did the narration.

Very Good

I live Ali Vali stories. I also like how certain series weave through others, peripherally. This is one of those. It’s a sequel to One More Chance, which I also loved.
I like the level of suspense I get. Enough to keep me engaged in the books. The writing is good and the characters are usually pretty interesting.
Lula Larkin does an alright job narrating. I often struggle differentiating character voices when she’s the narrator and that is definitely true in this one. Otherwise, she does a good job.
Looking forward to more AV!

Please get a new narrator!

I couldn't finish listening. I instead will read the book. I loved the story originally and when a story continues I wish authors would keep with the original narrator.

Very Good!

I totally enjoyed this sequel. Desi and Harry are type of MCs you like to root for. Byron as usual was a stupid butthead who just doesn’t get it and feels he’s not accountable for anything he did.

Having Shelby as part of the Rachel, Selena, and her as a “complicated” triangle was a different twist to that part of the story. Having seen how selfish she had been and cruel with Muriel in the Cain Casey series did not feel well for a relationship with her and Rachel. I hope there are subsequent storylines for Shelby to have her happy ending. However, she needs to have her own warning label glued to her forehead.

I hope there will be subsequent stories of NOLA and the overlapping cast of characters Ms. Vali keeps bringing into the fray.

Well done!
