Publisher's summary

The entity is ancient. It has taken form before, in other places, other guises. This time the place is Buffalo. The form is that of a magnificent woman...created from the dreams of a child.

The eternal hunger is immense. The entity must feed. And it's prey is human.

Psychic detective Ryerson Biertgarten is appalled at the savagery of the first killings. Far worse lies ahead, for the detective as well as the city. He is falling in love with a wonderful woman - but Joan will die - unless he can stop...The Devouring...

THE DEVOURING

Review: Reggie Halloway is a fourteen year old girl who's a big horror fan. She also has a job she enjoys in a horror themed bookstore. When a shipment comes in she finds this weird journal and Reggie decides to take it for a little while. The journal tells about the Vours, spirits that take over human bodies on the night of the winter solstice or what the journal reads as the Sorry Night. Reggie's always up for some fun decides that her friend Aaron and her will try to see if they can be taken over by the Vours. After this night Henry changes and they're not sure what they will do.

Narrator Paul Heitsch does a spectacular job with his performance of The Devouring. Paul did such a wonderful job and he kept me intrigued throughout the entire story. His voice captivates me and he reels me in. When Paul did his creepy voice, rather the voice of the Vours, wow, it sent goosebumps and chills up my spine. At times I felt like Paul was reaching out and grabbing me when using his Vours voice. Paul kept me mesmerized throughout the story and I enjoyed his performance so much. Paul left me begging me for more, the way he captures the characters. He doesn't have any trouble with distinguishing each character and making each one different. Paul doesn't have any trouble when it comes to changing his voice accents or sounding like a female. He does a superb job making every character different.

I highly recommend this audio. It's not you're everyday YA story. It's a horror type book without romance. I didn't quite understand everything about the Vours but I would love to listen to more stories about them. I would love for these two authors K.W. Armstrong and T.M. Wright to get together and write a second story on the Devouring. I would love to learn more about the Vours and I sorta felt like there's some unanswered questions with this story. I found this story worth the time and I think anyone looking for a different take on vampires then this story is for you. It also includes possession and it's an amazing horror story. I suggest if you love horror stories then give this story a try. You have nothing to lose with Audibles incredible warranty!
