About this listen

I'm cursed.

At least when it comes to finding Mr. Right.

I'm tired of men that only want one-night stands or blind dates that are nothing but awkward and uncomfortable. I'm tired of avoiding inappropriate text messages and the constant disappointment of always meeting Mr. Wrong.

After all these years of dates that lead nowhere, I can admit that it's me. I'm the problem. I'm shy and picky and cursed. Definitely cursed.

So I've decided two things.

The first? I'm giving up dating and relationships and men in general. Maybe, possibly, forever.

The second? I'm going to have to try harder to avoid Ezra Baptiste.

If I couldn't hack it in the kiddy pool of dating, I certainly can't swim in his deep end. He's too successful. Too intense. He's all man when I'm used to nothing but boys pretending to be grownups. He's everything I'm afraid to want and so far out of my league we might as well be different species entirely.

So he'll need to find a different artist to paint his mural. And a different graphic designer to help him with his website. He'll need to find someone else to glare at and flirt with and kiss.

It can't be me.

We're too different.

Contains mature themes.

Audio version highlights the book’s flaws

I’d read this book previously and enjoyed it, so I thought it would be a good listen. Unfortunately, audio as a format forces you to pay more attention and not gloss over parts. Was the heroine in the print version whiny and sophomoric? Yeah, probably to some degree, but you get to speed past the repetitive dithering and “poor unappreciated me” stuff.
I think the narrator could have rescued the
character with a crisper delivery, maybe, but I don’t think her interpretation was at all inaccurate given the text. The problem is that the result is low grade irritating. The male character also comes across as unaccountably admiring and bland. Same issue - interesting in the book, surprisingly ‘meh’ in audio.

I'm Loving This Series

This is the 2nd book in Rachel Higginson's "Opposites Attract" series. This time we hear Molly's story. As with Vera (the heroine of the 1st book), Molly is creative, interesting, and vulnerable. She's a compelling heroine with a great story.

I love that Higginson's books don't follow the standard Romance novel plot structure. It's refreshing! And thank goodness there's no artificially constructed angst! On the other hand, the sexual tension is well written and well paced.

A few notes. I love Elizabeth Hart's narration of the heroine, but her male voices all sound young and unfortunately a little wimpy. Having both novels contain abusive men seemed a little too repetitive. And where did the cover come from? Neither Molly nor Ezra are blonde....huh?

Didn’t like the narration, twas too shrill

For a uni graduate, the heroine seemed quite ignorant. It wasn’t fun being in her head at all and she did go on and on in shrill narration.

I stayed and finished this because I was intrigued by the H. Will bow out of reading the other 2 books in this series.

Broody man romance 1POV. HEA. Standalone.

This is a Seductive romance set in a big city. The man is well off, owns four ritzy restaurants and has had a troubled past. The woman is a graphic artist that has a passion for painting. She is scared to get into relationships bc her parents relationship is so tumultuous. Also, her boss has a hard time of keeping his hands off of her.

The relationship between the two characters starts off rocky bc the man is a pompous arse.

The narration is fine. EHs voice is a little child like and can get on your nerves if listened to in large quantities.

I gave this book a four bc there is too much inner dialogue and I don’t really understand the reason as to why she doesn’t want to see him.

There is an HEA but it is unfulfilling. There is more on their story in the next two books in the series-however you can completely listen to this as a standalone. There is another book before this that is pretty good, but you don’t need to.

Love irregardless

Another version of the love story in book 1, with the girl in some way running away from an abusive male into the arms of a famous chef.

Ezra + Molly = yummy!

This book has the perfect equation: intense verbal sparring + crackling chemistry + alpha man + independent woman + vulnerable emotion = holy cow, batman! Love, love, love!

"Our story was a complex piece of art that we worked on every day. It wasn’t always beautiful in the traditional sense, but it was captivating, and worthy and endless."

Elizabeth Hart did a great job with the narration. Reading through the reviews for the kindle and print versions, apparently there are stylistic pieces that easily irritates the reader, so I'm really glad I "read" via the audiobook on this one!

Soooooo much inner monologue

You really don’t need 10 minute of inner monologue in the middle of a conversation. Especially for every single conversation that’s had. Just got to the point already!! The idea of the book is great, but it’s hard to keep listening to the same inner debates for hours.

Something about this narrator irritates me

I dislike her voice. I dislike her lisp. I dislike that she reads adult books when she sounds like she is twelve-years old.
