About this listen

Pennsylvania 1739 : Stanton Klein’s father had given up on life after his wife died and left Stanton orphaned to live with his grandparents. He decided he would never love like that. He and his first wife had fared well together, but she’d died in childbirth. Now he’s decided to find another woman to marry. After all, a farmer needs a wife and sons. However, with the changes come important lessons and dangers that Stanton never imagined.

Beth Evans has taken care of her father since he fell from a barn roof and can no longer walk. People, like Fiona, have always made fun of her, because she has a limp. When Stanton befriends her, she’s wary but also intrigued. Her father encourages her to give Stanton a chance, but how can she be sure this is what’s best?

Wonderful story of love and faith

This tale of love between a decent-hearted farmer and a devout young lady with a limp captured my heart as well. Stanton's and Beth's respect and kindness for each other was so touching and admirable. Even in times of emergency and fear, Beth's faith in God held firm, which encouraged Stanton. The narrator did a wonderful job, and I enjoyed his elegant intonation and voicing of different characters.

Love and faith

I enjoyed this book so much. The love and faith that both Stanton and Beth shared. Beth had to overcome self doubt due to her limp and trust that Stanton really was interested in her. I loved the gift he bought her after their wedding, so thoughtful. The author wove some suspense into the story to keep readers engaged and intrigued.

I thought the narration was very well done.

Wonderful

A story that captured my heart at the beginning and did not let go until the end.

Beth takes care of her father, who had been injured years ago. She herself has a limp from when she was young, but she was strong in her faith. When she meets Stanton, it seems like he is actually interested in her and her disability does not matter.

Suspense, mystery, an evil villain, and finding an even stronger faith, carry this story of love and redemption to a wonderful conclusion. The narrator's voice almost mesmerized me and brought this story alive.

I cannot wait to hear more by this author!

Heartwarming and Inspirational

This was a heartwarming and inspirational well written book that kept my interest from beginning to end. I enjoyed the sweet romance in the story and the bit of suspense as well. Stanton was such an honourable man that didn’t let Beth’s small limp deter him from courting her, when others put her down because of it. Beth was just simply inspiring. I enjoyed everything about this book, including the wonderful narrator. Cory Thomas Hutcheson did a lovely job with all the voices, both male and female. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook, however I have voluntarily provided this unbiased review.

Love Conquers All

Good narration. Stanton has already lost one wife, but needs a wife and sons to make his farm work out. Beth has been raised by her Father, but he wants her to marry soon. He is ill and doesn't know how long he has to live. Beth has always been teased for her limp and doesn't know who would want her. Well Stanton does, but can they make together even with someone threatening their life all the time.
I was given a copy of the book by the author for an honest review.

I loved it!

Stanton wants to find a wife before winter sets in. His first wife died a year ago, and he dreads another cold, lonely winter all alone. He isn’t looking for a love match because after seeing his father’s devastation when he lost his true love, Stanton decided he wanted nothing to do with such emotions. He had cared for his first wife, but hadn’t loved her. He liked it that way and that’s what he desired again.

Beth is handicapped with a limp. But it’s difficult to feel sorry for her when she doesn’t feel sorry for herself. She is educated and takes great care of her father. Her faith in God is strong and constant. She has no desire to marry unless it is for true love, just like she witnessed between her parents.

Stanton chooses Beth as his new wife, but can he convince her to marry him. The more he spends time with her, the more he realizes how perfect she is for him. Beth wishes for more time to get to know Stanton. After all, he hasn’t told her that he loves her yet.

I liked Stanton and Beth right from the start. They both had strong opinions of what they expected of a spouse, but they also had tender hearts and compassion for each other. This book has some intrigue and suspense. I dreaded coming to the end of the novel, wishing it to go on and on. That’s how much I liked Stanton and Beth. This story was thoroughly enjoyable.

Christian Historical Romance

This is an incredible book! Set during the colonial time before the Revolution, it took a bit to remember my education on the customs of the day. There’s indentured servants and powdered wigs, use of the word Mistress to mean Mrs. and how one went about finding a wife, to name a few, but what a powerful story!!
The narration was perfect for this book with the exception of a couple of editing additions that sound out of place and one or two times a few women we’re talking and they sounded too similar. But I loved the almost whispered narration of the story and the great variety of character voices! The cadence was poetic and I had a very hard time putting the audiobook down for both the story and the voice! I’m extremely impressed!!
