Publisher's summary

Guardians of the Galaxy meets The Hobbit in this rollicking fantasy adventure.

It's not easy to live in a world ruled by dragons. The taxes are high, and their control is complete. But for one group of bold misfits, it's time to band together and steal back some of that wealth.

No one said they were smart.

"Ideal for fans of humorous capers and heist stories - such as Ocean's 11, Scott Lynch's Gentleman Bastard Sequence series, and Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga." ( Booklist)

Hilarious fantasy adventure

The writer is amazingly funny, had me laughing half the time. and the narrator did a fantastic job with all the different characters. Definitely worth listening too.

Ehh...

Story didn't capture me, characters didn't stand out, villains were lackluster... I finished it out of boredom more than a desire to read the ending. Middle of the road. Not Terrible, Not Great.

A must have audio

The worst part about this book, is the fact that I will have to wait for the next one to come out.

I didn't want to stop listening to this book. I wanted to call in sick at work and listen all day. I recommend this to anyone. Even if it's not your typical pick I think you would enjoy this one.

Story keeps you glued, stickier than Goblins.

I loved physically reading the paperback and wanted to listen to it while I worked since it is a great adventure comedy.

This is really quite good

Im on book two now and hope book three will come to audible soon.

Ive read a lot of fantasy / sci-fi over the decades and many audio books more recently. This is Far Better than the bulk of those self published LitRPG stories that have a dozen+ books and thousands of reviews… and it deserves a much larger audience.

Think of the series as a mix of grimdark and dark humor - just enough of the latter and done right without stumbling into silly or immature.
The characters are well developed and interesting. Could even say “diverse” too, and in the right way, without bowing to today’s childish / hypocritical politics. The female characters are involved and capable, and not mere props… nor are they ridiculous Marvel kiddie nonsense,
Narration is done well… pacing is good, characters are distinctive and fitting, voice is clear and easy / enjoyable to listen to.

The drunken old man alone is excellent… but then the lizard man and the rest of the characters are all good too. Each interesting and well developed. Each with their own flaws and dark impulses.

Given a chance, I think most would like this.

F'ing Epic

Definitely not your typical Fantasy. Superb narration! Great story! The swearing actually fits pretty well.

I love the gritty fantasy

I liked that I found the characters true to their own type of stereotypes in a classic yet refreshing way

STOP AFTER BOOK 1

Trust me, book one is great. It is hilarious, twisted, and entertaining. But i made the mistake of reading book 2 and couldnt bring myself to read book 3. Stop at book 1 and take the ending for what it is and continue your audible career with the joyous memories of a wonderfully told story, instead of mild anger at the author for ruining a series.
