Critic reviews

Jordan writes with the stark vision of light and darkness, and sometimes childlike sense of wonder, that permeates J. R. R. Tolkien's works. His style is undebatedly his own.”—The Pittsburgh Press

“Large and splendid. The saga reaches a new level of emotional impact.”—Chicago Sun-Times

Love the Naration

Finished this one in four days. The story is engaging, and I like character development in this one. Rosamond Pike is such a great narrator!

Rosamund Pike is the GOAT

Pike doing the audio books is by far the best thing to come from the prime series. She is unbelievably talented. No matter what happens I really hope she does all of the books.

Incredible narration

Rosamund Pike’s narration is phenomenal. It is easy to forget that it is one person narrating- each character’s voice is so unique that you know who is speaking without having to be told. The pacing is also spot on, drawing you into the story and it’s suspense. I can’t wait for her to finish the next book.

Can Rosamund Pike PLEASE do the entire series???

Another fantastic performance from Rosamund Pike. Yet again she breathes life into the characters and the story and makes the whole world very vivid and exciting. I'm sad that (at the time of review) this is the last book she's done of the series, but hopefully she will do more! Her performances on the first 3 books are so much more entertaining than the versions by other narrators. It would be wonderful if she is able to continue to do the rest of the books.

She gives each character a fitting and memorable voice, but I think her best performances are Loial, Mat, Siuan, Perrin, and Verin. For show fans, her Moiraine voice in this book sounds closer to her performance in the show, and her Siuan and Alanna accents and voices are amazing impressions of Okonedo and Bose.

Story wise it was very entertaining. It feels like we had a good balance of all of the characters doing their things separately and together. Each character is starting to grow and we get introduced to another big city, and another important culture in the Wheel of Time universe.

There is a bit of repetition/exposition on some points (eg Mat "remembering" the differences of Ajah feels like a video game tutorial...), but it's not too much to just skim past.

Another fantastic performance, story

Another fantastic performance and a great story. It was a little slow at first but picked up a lot.

Really hoping Rosamund Pike does the rest of the series!

Amazing.

The story is so well done and Rosamund does an excellent job narrating this series. I tried to listen to the originals but it’s so horrid compared to todays production. I was so happy to learn she recorded the 3rd book. Her nuanced voice for each character is well thought out and expertly executed. I refuse to listen to the originals unless she doesn’t finish narration on the entire series. I genuinely hope she continues to record for them. I’ll be holding off on the next book until she does.

Ms. Pike is an incredible talent

I've read and listened to these books many times. Pikes reading of this novel and the previous have elevated the experience even further.

Rosamund Pike delivers

Wholeheartedly hope Rosamund Pike is back for the rest of the series, she’s excellent. Story is good, though sometimes feels drawn out a bit. Overall will continue to purchase the new audiobooks for this series as long she does the narration.

Love Rosamund, not so much the book

Rosamund Pike is a one-woman Cast of Characters. I’d buy a book just to hear her perform. Knowing that this book isn’t the best in the series, I bought it anyway, because Rosamund performs it.
