About this listen

The Number-One Best Seller in General Humor - Best-Selling Romantic Comedy and New Adult Romance

When 27-year-old pop sensation Brooklyn Heart steps in front of a microphone, her love songs enchant audiences worldwide. But when it comes to her own love life, the only spell she's under is a dry one. So when her label slots her for a Grammy performance with the sexy and soulful Jason Monroe, she can't help but entertain certain fantasies...those in which her G-string gets more play than her guitars'.

Only one problem. Jason is a lyrical lone wolf who isn't happy about sharing the stage - nor his ranch - with the sassy singer. But while it may seem like a song entitled "Jason Monroe Is an Arrogant Ho" basically writes itself, their label and their millions of fans are expecting recording gold.... They're expecting The Duet.

A fun & sexy romantic comedy.

Disappointing at first but it got better

It took a while to get used to the narrator but over the course of the story I settled in and began to hear the story and not the narrator.

I am of two minds about this book. Brooklyn is a mix confidence, strength and absurd immaturity. Jason is aloof and cold yet has a heart of gold. It is a well travelled path. There were glimpses of R S Grey’s humour and style but for me they were crushed by the ridiculousness of the female lead early in the story. Unlike another reviewer who went on at length about how Brooklyn was a mature adult I found her completely unequipped to function in a modern world. Feeling the need to let loose a little she goes out with her sister, gets herself drunk beyond the point where she can't even focus on the random hookup she met in a bar and the next day she sleeps through an important meeting with her label...no flags on that play for a mature, adult woman. Oh, and she might want to review with her sister the protocol for what to do when you're supposed to be watching out for a friend/sister who has been drinking all night....hint it’s NOT abandoning her to some random who they met an hour before. Another night out out, another bar, drunk texting, drunk crying, incoherent babbling and....a head covered in soya sauce? This time it’s her assistant who lets her make a fool of herself. Seriously, this woman needs to learn how to drink and needs to change out her friend circle.

Let’s see, I’m off to spend weeks at a working ranch. What should I bring with me? Boots? Jeans? Nope, no room in my suitcases, where would I put my Prada heels? For someone so accomplished Brooklyn is seriously challenged by the easy stuff.

I liked Brooklyn’s self confidence, I struggled get past the ’stupid’, I wanted to like the book, I pushed past the irritation, held my nose during the contrived crisis rooted in poor communication and was rewarded with a happy ending.

The story has stayed with me

I listened to this book several weeks ago and the story and characters have stayed with me. The relationship between Brooklyn and her sister is funny and sweet. The chemistry between Jason and Brooklyn is hot. Jason can be a jerk and tends to run hot and cold, but he comes around. The creative process of writing music and lyrics is well covered in a playful way.

Enjoyed but missing something

Enjoyed the funny quips and the witty humor. But I didn’t necessarily believe the relationship between Brooklyn and Jason. It was surface and unconvincing. Too bad too because the idea of this story is excellent and if there were more depth to the characters and their love story it could have been so much more.

Cute and light story

Great narration, cute play between characters and just the right amount of intimacy between characters not overly flooded with sex but not dry either

Love the songwriting aspect of the story

I loved how they came up with their lyrics. A heartwarming story but also a girl who does drunk hilariously well. Unfortunately the 5th star was deducted due to the narrator - her inflections were lacking, but she wasn't completely awful either (I have suffered through some awful narrators so I can't complain too much for her less than stellar delivery).

Not great so far...

Chapter 2: She fixed her hair, put on makeup and looked in her bag for breath mints and never noticed her shirt?
This is the 2nd book in a row I've read by this author with kinky senior citizen neighbors.

Enjoyed this book

This was a very enjoyable book. The chemistry between the two was very well written. They had to write a song together but Weren’t sure they cups stand each other, both having always been solo artist that wrote their own songs they couldn’t imagine being able to write together. Well they come up with a great way for inspiration. Come enjoy their journey.

Seriously many LOL moments....

Just was I was looking for...not a boring or expected comedy, but rather it had many original and funny moments. The are more relationships built than just the hero/heroine which always brings the story up a notch. Julia Farhat was a good choice for this narration and could be serious but still deliver the subtle tones of the jokes to make me laugh out loud. I would recommend for those looking for a break from angsty stories.

My favorite rom com!

The humor in this book is awesome with romantic situations and a little drama and it's the perfect book. I've listened to this a thousand times and it never gets old.
