About this listen

At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk....

James Ashwood.

He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.

Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip, too.

On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.

"Come have a seat."

Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild - but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.

When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow - he wants a commitment.

And the thing about the fortunate ones?

They’re used to getting what they want.

I devoured it.

Finished in a day!
Angsty romance. While I was annoyed with the heroine sometimes, there wasn’t anything that I could find wrong with the hero. They had great chemistry, so that made up for the things I didn't like about Brooke Davenport. ALSO, James Ashwood is the ultimate book boyfriend!! Loooooooved him.

As for narration, I thought that Brittany Pressley had the perfect voice for this story--she suited the main character well. I will probably look for more romance narrated by her!

Enjoyable, Entertaining

Entertaining overall, but I don't feel the male character was very well developed or likable. The narration was superb with many different believable voices including all ages of women and men, some with French or Spanish accents which were very well done. There were also a couple of adorable children who made me laugh.

The narrator was perfect for the story!

WOULD YOU LISTEN TO THE FORTUNATE ONES AGAIN? WHY?

Definitely! This is my second R.S. Grey audiobook, and I have to say, this author got lucky with her narrators! I loved the story when I first read the book, and loved it even more when I listened to it. I don't know about you, but there's something so personal and intimate about listening to a person tell a story. The sexual tension was even stronger, and the characters' feelings jumped up to me. This is my first audiobook narrated by Ms. Pressley, and kudos to her for an amazing performance.

WHAT ABOUT BRITTANY PRESSLEY'S PERFORMANCE DID YOU LIKE?

Brittany Pressley was brilliant in bringing Brooke Davenport and the characters in this book to life. Her voice was pleasant to listen to, full of emotion and life, and I enjoyed her pace just right. I'm not fluent in French, but I thought she did a wonderful job of speaking it. She was also wonderful in portraying different characters, and sometimes I'd forget only one person is narrating it. I particularly love her portrayal of Luciana and Olive, the kids of Brooke's AU pair host.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS AUDIOBOOK TO A FRIEND? WHY?

Yes. This audiobook had a wonderful narrator, and it made listening to this story even more enjoyable. If you enjoy R.S. Grey's signature humor and wit, you'll enjoy listening to The Fortunate Ones.

I really love the narrator!

Brooke grew up wealthy but didn't act the part. As an adult she won't depend on her father's money. She works in a country club and it's there where she met HIM, the most wanted bachelor. But their goals are far apart.

I really like that James isn't a rich asshole. And I'm routing for team James besides the differences.

The narration was great. I really like the narrators voice!

Enjoyable Story

This was a good story if you don't want anything really heavy to listen too. It kept me entertained and listening. This is now my third book by R.S. Grey and I have yet to be disappointed. Brittany Pressley did great with the narration.

Kept me on the edge of my seat!

All R.S. Grey books are amazing, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!! The slow burn won’t let you stop listening for a second!! I’m hoping for more Brooke and James in the near future!

this story is slow.

for a twenty five year old, this female protagonist is OBNOXIOUS. For being well educated, she's clueless. For being well traveled, she is naive. She behaves like a 17 year old. Way, way too angsty....ugh

This one kept me entertained the entire time. Loved the suspense of will she or won’t she. Loved it! Narrator was fabulous with the accents!

Really good story

Really good story excellent narration. I enjoyed the banter between the characters. Some funny parts as well. I like RS Grey,, she has a great story telling ability.. I do wish the cover matached the description of the characters. I've found this in many books, not just RS Grey.

One of my faves!

The Fortunate Ones is one of my all time favorite RS Grey’s books. I absolutely adore how Brittany Presley reads her books too. It’s exactly how I hear them in my head when I’m reading!
