About this listen

A bride wasn’t in his plans...

The last thing Marcus, the Duke of Autenberry, expects to see after sleeping off a night’s drunken shenanigans is a woman being auctioned in the village square. Before he can think about the ramifications, he buys her, thinking he’s winning the girl her freedom. Instead, he discovers he’s bought a wife.

A duke wasn’t in hers...

Alyse Bell is almost rid of the shackles that bound her in a name-only marriage, but the day her friend promised to purchase her in a wife auction, he vanishes, leaving her to face a mob of unsavory bachelors intent on owning her body and soul. But the appearance of a wicked, wealthy stranger changes her path forever.

The road to ruin...

Marcus doesn’t know what to do with the impertinent chit who clearly isn’t duchess material! Insisting their marriage isn’t legitimate, they leave for his estate in Scotland, hoping to devise a plan to get rid of each other. However, on a journey fraught with misadventure, their attraction grows and Marcus realizes he’ll do anything to keep this fiery woman for his own.

Such a lovely story. Once I started it, I could not stop listening and completed it in one day. I’ve never done that with an audiobook before! I’m looking forward to listening to the next one!

Just lovely!

The story was okay. Not what I was expecting. But the performance killed me! No feelings in tone. It was so monotone I was DYING to hurry it on. She did the men's voices fairly well. It was just so BORING to listen to. I might have enjoyed the story more if I just read it myself.

Not what I expected. The journey was a bit long. Ultimately, a good love story.

A little too much banter

I like this book, third so far in this series, but....

Let’s start with book one, totally unoriginal but okay.
Book 2 was really good.
Book 3 took on the Duke... and was a very good book. I just felt... kinda of a shoulder shrug, head bobble, and long drawn out okaaaaaayyyy... sort of ending. Hurriedly they introduced the premise for book four however the end, as good as it was, was kind of anti climatic. It could be because I listened to all three in order boom boom boom, and didn’t feel a bang, I suppose.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked it and do recommend it! It was interesting and expertly narrated. It was steamy hot and kept my attention.

I think that the Duke and his explosive personality just needed more resolution. He was a underlying influence in the first two. Some of that drama even used in this book. Yet it just resolved with little reflection and no excitement or fanfare, he needed more!

5⭐️’s, but.....

The narrator often sounded as if she was reading instead of telling a story. I missed the expected back and forth banter between the main characters. There wasn't enough build up or romantic tension.

Not what I was hoping for!

The narrator reads every sentence like it's a question. I couldn't get past the first chapter.

Unlistenable
