About this listen

Simon Basset, the irresistible Duke of Hastings, has hatched a plan to keep himself free from the town's marriage-minded society mothers. He pretends to be engaged to the lovely Daphne Bridgerton. After all, it isn't as if the brooding rogue has any real plans to marry - though there is something about the alluring Miss Bridgerton that sets Simon's heart beating a bit faster.

And as for Daphne, surely the clever debutante will attract some very worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable. But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, she soon forgets that their courtship is a complete sham. And now she has to do the impossible and keep herself from losing her heart and soul completely to the handsome hell-raiser who has sworn off marriage forever!

really enjoyed this book

I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed listening to this book. A first I was concerned with the amount of time but the story line kept me entertained, before I knew it, the book ended. Looking forward to the next one in the series!

Romance for modern age

I thought this book was pretty awesome how she went about to introduce disabilities in our characters, in this day and age when people are becoming more aware of autism, ADHD, ect. There was always some dysfunction in past romance novels characters but I think this is my first somewhat realistic one. I thought the narrator was okay, I did not have problem with her voice or tone and she did each character well. This story did not include some evil villain, so it seemed kind of mellow to me but still good. “AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY”

Fluffy fun historical romance

The Duke and I is a light, fun historical romance with a hero and heroine you'll be rooting for until the very end. There are no great plot twists or surprises, but if you're looking for a pleasant book that will whisk your imagination away from your troubles, this is a good choice. My only concern is that the heroine tricks the hero into impregnating her (I'll leave off whether or not her scheme works), but considering our modern problem of "stealthing," I'm not sure how this will go over with readers. The author clearly tried to work her way around the issue and make it more palatable to modern readers, but it was a debatable move by the heroine, and some readers might object strongly to her actions. However, as in all romances, our couple finds their way to a satisfying happily ever after.

Loved This Book

If you could sum up The Duke and I in three words, what would they be?

Perfectly Joyful Story

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character has to be the entire Bridgerton family. I love how they are connected to one another and how funny they are.

What about Rosalyn Landor’s performance did you like?

I loved the books when I first read them but I almost think I like the audio better. Rosalyn's performance is spot on. She made everyone sound just like I thought they would.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Rollicking fun in London.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to hear the rest of the books. If they are all this great I will have to listen over and over.

fresh story line

definitely not what I expected. 1800s romance is super steamy. This book is nothing like any other. I will listen to it again

Series

Just one more book in the life of an English family. As I said before a very cute story & light listening. Dates 1813 and on......narrator is very good for this type of story. Enjoy
