Publisher's summary

Simon Basset, the irresistible Duke of Hastings, has hatched a plan to keep himself free from the town's marriage-minded society mothers. He pretends to be engaged to the lovely Daphne Bridgerton. After all, it isn't as if the brooding rogue has any real plans to marry - though there is something about the alluring Miss Bridgerton that sets Simon's heart beating a bit faster.

And as for Daphne, surely the clever debutante will attract some very worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable. But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, she soon forgets that their courtship is a complete sham. And now she has to do the impossible and keep herself from losing her heart and soul completely to the handsome hell-raiser who has sworn off marriage forever!

really loved this!!!

I loved it. I liked that it was regency romance with just the right amount of sex as not to be offputting or annoying. I'm about to buy the next book by this author and just go in order. loved these characters and I laughed and cried.

So much better than Netflix...

I've been anticipating Netflix's Bridgerton for months now, and decided (upon finishing it on New Year's Eve 2020) to read the book (or listen here). Let me tell you-- the book far surpasses. It is much more clever, the double entendres had me snorting every other moment, and the sexual tension had me on the edge of my proverbial seat!

The original book tells the story without the unneeded side stories of Anthony's mistress, Benedict's artistic temperament, Colin's dalliance in love, Eloise's brush with feminism and detective work, the Featherington's woes en masse, Miss Thompson's jaded views on love and impending motherhood, the Queen's need to make the perfect match for a nephew that never existed (who is Prince Frederick ... and why would he ever consider a Morganatic marriage?), and poor old Pen's fashion woes. The original tale is smooth, uninterrupted, and has two protagonists who compliment each other in only the way two protagonists in a romance novel ever could.

Ms. Landor's vocal performance is exquisite, her character voices faithful to the individual characters AND easily distinguishable from one another. A delightful performance, all around!
