More “Ohhh, That’s Why” Moments Than I Expected

I went into this hoping to feel a little less awkward in tricky conversations; and came out realizing how much I’ve been missing, even with people I’m close to. It’s not heavy or preachy, just filled with stuff that made me pause and rethink how I respond. I’ve caught myself reacting differently in real-time, and it feels good. Not perfect, but better. Like I’m not just guessing what people need from me anymore.

From Clueless to Connected

I downloaded this audiobook after a painful breakup left me questioning my interpersonal skills. The narrator's engaging style made complex emotional concepts accessible during my morning commute. The chapter on recognizing emotional triggers was eye-opening - I've caught myself in reactive patterns I never noticed before. Two weeks of practicing the empathetic listening techniques has already improved conversations with my difficult coworker. The practical exercises don't feel like homework - they're genuinely enjoyable challenges that build on each other. If you've ever wondered why some people navigate relationships so effortlessly, this book reveals their secrets!

Perfect timing

There has never been a better time to read a book like this. With political tensions in many countries, I have seen how terrible we can be to each other, especially when sitting behind a keyboard. This book reminds us that what we say and do affects how we start to see each other and ourselves. Technology allows us to hide behind that keyboard and say things we would never utter face to face. Everyone who is on social media should read this!

Emotional skills I didn’t know I needed

This audiobook helped me realize how often I default to reacting instead of responding, especially in conflict. The part on identifying emotional patterns before they spiral really stuck with me—I’ve already caught myself doing it differently. I also appreciated how it reframed empathy as a skill I could actually develop, not just something you either have or don’t. It's the kind of guide that quietly changes how you show up in your relationships.

Good book!

Although I have been working remotely for 5 years, it is just not the same.
i still find communication a challenge especially in certain situations. I found the chapter on "adapting emotional intelligence to remove work" helpful especially when I am meeting with my team.
Also, I realized that I am the "peacemaker" in the family which used to be very stressful for me. Now, I try to use the quality time vs quantity strategies with my parents and it is helping!

Practical, accessible and engaging

Understanding emotions can be tricky, but this audiobook breaks it down in a way that feels really accessible. I like how it covers both recognizing your own feelings and reading others, which is so useful in everyday situations. The tips for handling conflict with confidence were practical. The narrator’s style was engaging and make it easy to listen to. If you want to improve your relationships and handle emotions more smoothly, this is a helpful listen.
