Publisher's summary

In the 101st Airborne, if you cared enough to send the very best, you sent The Howlers.

Gary Linderer volunteered for the Army, then volunteered for Airborne training. When he reached Vietnam in 1968, he was assigned to the famous "Screaming Eagles," the 101st Airborne Division. Once there, he volunteered for training and duty with F Company 58th Inf, the Long Range Patrol company that was "the Eyes of the Eagle."

F Company pulled reconnaissance missions and ambushes, and Linderer recounts night insertions into enemy territory, patrols against NVA antiaircraft emplacements and rocket-launching facilities, the fragging of an unpopular company commander, and one of the bravest demonstrations of courage under fire that has ever been described. The Eyes of the Eagle is an accurate, exciting look at the recon soldier's war. There are none better.

Day by Day account of a Tour in Nam

This was the first paperback book on Vietnam war and I got hooked listening on how the Author deceived each mission.

Awesome story! Great narration

Quintessential study of Rangers in 1968-69 Vietnam. Heartfelt, sincere, moving. Just download book 2 Eyes behind the lines.

Couldn't put it down

It took a couple chapters but I stayed up late into the night listening a couple times because I just had to know how things ended up. The story while true is incredible and the narrator does a good job in the telling, nothing flashy but more than satisfactory.

Great first hand account of A LRPS’s story

The author told his story of a Army LRRP, and what they did to survive. He gave insight to what it takes to be a LRRP soldier.

Excellent storytelling about braver in Vietnam I had not known about, it often kept me on the edge of my seat. Many parts were very emotional

Loved it

Both of Gary's books are excellent. It is great to hear these stories and share those experiences with us. I was hoping for more books from these guys since I read Six SIlent Men years ago hopefully Audible will produce that book and Charlie Rangers.

Great Detail

This is a great retelling. The one thing about it was after the injury at 6 months and going back to the unit he ends the story. It left me wanting to hear the rest of the story.
